Located just blocks from the Sarasota Bayfront, downtown Sarasota features a small walkable shopping area filled with dozens of boutiques, specialty shops, art galleries and more. For those interested in buying art, Sarasota's Palm Avenue and Main Street offer several art galleries to explore. Known as "Gallery Row" by locals, Palm Avenue offers the opportunity to shop for everything from sculptures and handmade glass to jewelry and paintings made by local artisans.
During the First Friday ArtWalks, which take place on the first Friday of each month from 6-9pm, visitors can visit different galleries after normal hours. While Main Street has its share of art galleries, it is also home to Brooks Brothers and several clothing stores offering women's fashions.
Once a month, downtown Sarasota residents and visitors have the opportunity to enjoy these shops and boutiques after normal hours. The event, known as the First Friday Walk, also offers wine tasting opportunities for shoppers. Art lovers can purchase works by local artists by visiting the State of the Arts Gallery on State Street.

Items found in this shop range from Bavarian "smokers" to French linens, pottery, and more. Sarasota Candle, a local candle maker, is right next door. Nearby Lemmon Avenue also offers plenty of shopping opportunities for those who enjoy buying free food, arts and crafts.
Every Saturday throughout the year from 7am to 1pm, Lemmon Avenue is home to the Downtown Sarasota Farmers Market. With over 50 vendors available, the event features loads of organic produce, baked goods, cheese, meats, fresh fruit, art, crafts, flowers, plants, and more. Additional fresh food and produce can also be found at Whole Foods Market located on First Street.
Whole Foods Market Center also features upscale retail shops on the ground floor along with a parking garage and cafe. Antique lovers also have the opportunity to seek out hidden treasures when visiting the Sarasota area of the city, such as Jack Vinales Antiques in the Burns Square section of downtown.
This area, located at the south end of Pineapple Avenue, also has a number of interesting shops. Fantastic Orchid offers plants, pots and more, while Malika's imports include Scandinavian furniture. Other shops that can be found here include L-Boutique and Parkland Art Gallery. From women's fashion to art and intriguing imports, downtown Sarasota's shopping is sure to pique the interest of anyone who takes a closer look.
