I'll be the first to admit, this is a Christmas gift exchange variation of the super popular Left Right food game I shared in my Birthday Party Games post. It was such a hit with my readers and my own family that I decided to change it up this year with a similar gift exchange game!
I love that it's simple enough for kids to play, but fun for teens and adults! The general idea of the game is this - everyone brings a gift (or gifts) and the gifts are passed around the table until all the gifts are covered.
Once all the gifts are closed, the game is over and everyone goes home with the finished gifts. But it's so much more! Watch the video below for a quick version of the game and see how much fun this gift swapping potion game can be!
Switch Steal Unwrap Gift Exchange Game
You must make a decision before playing. You can bring one, two or three gifts for everyone. If you're giving two or three gifts, state that they should be a smaller prize within the price range of $15 for all three gifts. If they only bring gifts, set your price range anywhere you want.

It's more fun with multiple gifts, but that doesn't mean it still can't work well with one or two. I've included instructions below on how to play with just one gift or multiple gifts. If you ask your guests to bring gifts, know that they must be wrapped.
This game only works when gifts are wrapped. When guests arrive, they should place their gifts on the table or floor, whichever is most convenient for you. You can decide what kind of gifts you want to bring - white elephant or regular. I love the regular and white elephant for this head or tail gift exchange game, but also do what works for your group!

Everyone piles their gifts in the middle. Before starting to play, everyone randomly chooses a gift (or 2 or 3) from the middle, then sits in a circle.
Gift Exchange Game Preparation
These are the gifts they start with. Alternatively, you can have the game host hand out all the gifts as they wish. Everyone must start with the same number of gifts and end with the same number. Choose someone to start the game and let them.
If you're playing with one gift per person, give them death. Two gifts = two choices. Three gifts = three choices. You roll the right amount of numbers and move accordingly. Each die corresponds to one of the gifts within it. The person rolling the coin chooses which gifts to trade and steal.

So, for example, if you were playing with three gifts and the person rolled a 2,4,6, they would give one of their gifts to the person to the left (dealer's gift choice), and they would steal a gift from each of the circles (one of their gifts with the others
exchange), they choose to unwrap one of their gifts. If someone fails to make a die (for example, roll two sixes and all their presents are already wrapped), their turn is over. Better luck next time. After a player has completed all their moves, they pass the number to the person on their left, and it is that person's turn.
How To Play
Play in a circle with people rolling, exchanging gifts, stealing gifts and unwrapping presents. Note: The player must trade or exchange gifts they have at the time of the role. So if player A exchanges a gift with a player to his right, he cannot give that gift as he wishes.
As soon as the last gift is not given, the game ends and everyone keeps their gifts in hand. If someone ends up with their gift, they can trade it if they want or keep it. This is one of the funnest parts of the game because you never know when the last gift will close and your gift exchange will be exchanged until the last gift.
If you want, after you open the last gift, you can re-roll for everyone, including the person who opened the last gift. This will make your game a bit longer and unlocking the final gift will be less exciting, but it's totally up to you!

Whatever you decide, make sure everyone knows in advance so there's no confusion and no complaints. If you have people brought two gifts, the game is exactly the same, except everyone rolls two cards instead of three. This game could be a little short. If you only have people bringing one gift, the game works the same, except you roll one die instead of two or three.
How To Play
A few reasons why Multiple Gifts is fun: We played with a group of 35 last night, and to be honest, I wouldn't recommend doing it with such a large group. If you have such a large group, I would split them into two groups and play two mini-games to make it more fun.
Or try one of our other gift exchange games instead. If you want to play this game with a whole group, here are some tweaks to speed up the game and keep everyone entertained. You also want to make sure you're all in the circle so people can see what others are opening and what's available.
I've seen groups of about 3 different tables (unconnected) playing the same game, not knowing what the others were up to because they couldn't see. If so I would only play mini table games. All gifts, wrapped or unwrapped, will remain intact during the game.
Boxing makes the game more fun because then people know what they are stealing/trading. Yes, no. If someone rolls a 1 or 2, they only trade their gifts, but don't open them. If you roll a 3 or 4, steal points - choose a gift to trade from anyone in the circle and unwrap that gift if it's unwrapped.
