Learn More MILWAUKEE - Across Wisconsin, people are still feeling the effects of last week's powerful storms, especially those that knocked out power. The city of Milwaukee and foodies from America's Eastern Wisconsin teamed up Friday to help fill their refrigerators by giving away 3,000 Pick 'n Save gift cards to city residents.

Chris Carini was among those who arrived at the distribution center at the Pick 'n Save on Holt Avenue in Milwaukee.

Karini said she was without electricity for three days and was forced to throw away everything in her fridge and freezer. It was a hard reality for him to face. "I'm old-fashioned. You don't waste [food]. That's one thing that really bothered me," Carini said. For many people, losing food can be a huge financial burden. That's something Scott Marshall of Feeding America in Eastern Wisconsin has seen firsthand.
When combined with disasters that increase hunger and empty your fridge, it has dire consequences and, frankly, creates a sense of fear and hopelessness, Marshall explained. While the distribution was open only to Milwaukee residents, Marshall added that those living in other communities affected by the shutdown can contact Feeding America directly to connect with resources to help secure food.
