Doernbecher Children's Hospital has just received a major boost through a donation of over $60,000 from the San Francisco Western Exhibitors. Among the gifts were retail items such as candles, jewelry and stuffed animals sold at the Doernbecher Gift Shop. Store manager Carol Tuntura estimates the merchandise sale will generate more than $60,000.

Profits from the store go to Doernbecher to support programs for children. However, this is not the only way a gift helps children. "Often, children who have been in the hospital for days or weeks come here to experience a bit of the outside world and take their mind off their illness," Turtura said.
