Betty Proctor says the progress she's seen through her daughter is why she started the nonprofit Moving People from Arts and Crafts. The goal is to fund workshops that help people on the spectrum express themselves through creativity. "You can be as creative as you want and be able to express yourself without having those communication skills," Proctor said.
As of 2017, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says Florida has the fourth-highest number of people with autism in the nation, at more than 300,000. Rachel Chamberlain is director of the Tallahassee Speech Support Group, which helps families with children with autism find resources around the state.
While it's hard to get an exact number of cases in Leon County, he says the number is not small. "I would definitely say yes by thousands," Chamberlain said. “To the children? Hundreds. But of course you can't put an exact number.” To help the people of Leon Proctor County, he employs children like his daughter to teach them leadership and business skills.

Since 2017, Obsessions Gift Shop has become one of the most popular gift shops in Tallahassee. What started as a hobby has turned into our passion. Nia was about to graduate high school and I wanted to give her a chance to become financially stable.

MPAC was established in 2020. We founded MPAC with the vision of providing a space where people with autism spectrum disorder and communication disorders can learn professional, social and life skills. MPAC aims to provide opportunities for financial independence. Increase job retention by hiring or training your target audience to develop leadership, social and life skills.
MPAC makes these competencies accessible to everyone, especially our target group, through workshops, volunteer experiences and entrepreneurial skills. Nijah is the reason for MPAC and Obsessions. Nijah is currently in college and co-owns Obsessions. Nija is a board member of MPAC. He likes to organize and meet people.
Nijah has a small business called Beautiful Rose. The beautiful rose creates bracelets with precious stones. Check out her items in the Obsessions gift shop. The goal is for Nijah to take full ownership of Obsessions Gifts and become the CEO of MPAC. Betty has a master's degree in social work.
His life and career have been helping families. He has worked with a variety of populations and agencies. Betty worked for several years with families whose children had behavioral problems and/or were bullied. He also worked for several years with Workforce Development to help young people find work.
