Q Where Is Oakland Zoo Gift Shop Located?
Please consider contributing at any level you can manage. Every dollar counts for our 750+ animals! Oakland Zoo is a perfect balance of animals, play areas, and (dare I say it?) attractions for kids. In fact, there are so many other fun things going on, sometimes it's a challenge to remember to see the animals.
The great thing about an Oakland Zoo membership is that you can go, see an animal or two, break down, and leave without worrying about the price of admission (and parking!). Here's our recommendation for a route through Oakland Zoo. First timers please park at the entrance to the Children's Zoo and then turn left to see the top of the Gondola (California Trail) before returning to the Children's Zoo with its menagerie, insect structure, giant and merry turtles.

otters and playground. You'll enjoy the scenic hill walk, close-up views of grizzly bears, engaging learning activities and creative play structure before the kids even notice the play area. Arrange the trip in advance. Walks at the Oakland Zoo are charming miniature walks that can last most of the day.
Do you ride them, skip them, or limit them to two each? Let your child know in advance. This strategy can curb begging. After ending this conversation (ugh!), go to the gondola. Enjoy the views, take pictures and wave at passing cars. The gondola ride is free.
Q What Days Are Oakland Zoo Gift Shop Open?
Once at the top of the zoo, you can enjoy new bear and condor habitats along with a fantastic play structure. There were also wolves during my visit, but I did not find them in the trees. While in the "upper" part of the zoo, stop by the habitarium, across the courtyard from the visitor center/cafeteria.
The Habitarium features a highly interactive animal habitat exhibit, a scavenger hunt for different ages, and a great window to see grizzly bears up close. The view of SF Bay is quite impressive on a clear day. But if I were a little boy, I would want to spend all my time on the playground!
I recommend planning more time for the kids to explore all it has to offer. Themed around the five different ecological zones that the animals of the California Trail call home, the play structures are creative and in perfect condition. Kids can slide down a grass hill on a "sled", zip line, hide, spin, build, jump and run.

Lots of shade and benches make it a nice place to eat. A counter-clockwise loop on the trail is rewarding. Walk the way above the wolves, without howling! — before seeing condors and a golden eagle up close. Can you spot mountain lions, black bears and jaguars?
Q How Is Oakland Zoo Gift Shop Rated?
Oakland Zoo is 100 acres in size and some of the trails seem pretty steep to push a stroller. Download the map >> Near the lower entrance you will find the original climbing facilities; playful river otters; giant tortoises; a petting zoo with goats; and the creepy Bug House.
Past the zoo, find the fruit bat pavilion; room of reptiles and amphibians; and some usually lazy alligators before you see the adorable lemurs swinging around. Going up from the children's zoo, keeping to the right, the animals include all my favorite monkeys, birds and tigers.
Remind the children to be quiet while they laugh at the many antics of the squirrel monkeys. If you walk past the train tracks and the flamingo, congratulations, you've also found the gift shop and stroller rental. Walking up from the petting zoo, keeping to the left, you'll pass the bathhouse before reaching the lovely baboons, pigs and giraffes.
After seeing the giraffes, you can go straight to the gondola or turn left and see more African animals like lions, camels, elephants and zebras. Say hello to the meerkats: Carol's kids called them "watchmen" because of the way they move and watch everything. The rides at the Oakland Zoo are perfect for preschoolers and a lot of fun, but they cost more, so you'll want to plan accordingly.
