By Bus[Edit]
Foreigners are not required to travel (Surat Jalan) to enter Aceh, but an Indonesian visa is required. You can get a 30-day visa on arrival at Banda Aceh Airport. The embassy in Kuala Lumpur can sometimes process visas the same day if you complete all the paperwork before noon, although this is only supposed to apply to Malaysian residents.
There are no delays during the night with the travel time from 9-13 hours - from Medan to Banda Aceh. Major bus companies such as PMTOH, Pelangi, Kurnia and Pusaka services on Jl. Gajah Mada, Medan. The price varies from Rp 110,000 in a regular size to Rp 200,000 in a wide seater bus.
Minibuses can also take you to Banda Aceh from the Medana region, but the journeys are usually longer. The prices are a little cheaper than the manufacturer. It can also pass from Medan to Banda Aceh via Kutacane and Takengon. This will be a total of 20 hours.
Airlines fly daily between Banda Aceh and Medan, a 1-hour journey, Batavia, a 2-40-minute journey, or Singapore, approximately 4 hours. There is no longer a bus that serves the airport. The only area to the city is next to the airport by taxi, which is fixed at Rp 100,000 (2019).

The taxi counter is on the left side as you come out of the gate. The visa formalities at this airport are similar to those applicable to other Indonesian immigration ports. The nearest major (international) carrier terminal is Belawan Port, near Medan. Ships from Batam, Indonesia (coming from Singapore, takes common route).
The Penang ferry is not in the air. From Ulhee, the port of Banda Aceh, you can go to Pulau Weh and Pulau Aceh. The main ways of getting around are becak (motorcycle taxis) and public minibuses. Due to the sudden influx of money after the tsunami, the population got used to overloading, now it has returned to stabilization.
Sample prices are: Airport - Grand Mosque: Rp 40,000; Bus Terminal - Grand Mosque: Rp 8,000; Grand Mosque - Penayong: Rp 5,000. Within the city, it is usually Rp. 10,000 to do this. It is possible that the "Tsunami tour" can be developed, with many inland boats and other monuments dedicated to the devastating day in 2004. There are about 65 NGOs working in Banda Aceh;
generally, however, non-Indonesians are not recruited locally. These NGOs include various UN and EU organizations, USNS, Care, America, Islamic Solace, International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent, Australian Red Cross, Turkish Red Crescent, Kuwaiti Red Crescent, French Red Cross, IMC, IOM, WHO, Japan. At the peak of the post-tsunami response there were 850 NGOs, but many of these religious organizations were non-Muslim and their permits were not extended by the Indonesian government. There are interesting fish, food and vegetable markets in the center of the city. There are also some small souvenir shops selling various local goods.
Mall Hermes Palace is located in the center of Banda Aceh. The central shopping center has over 100 stores with a food court, supermarket and clothing store. Acehnese breakfast is nasi gurih, rice cooked in coconut milk, sold everywhere in coffee shops. Food stalls and restaurants are open throughout the unspoilt part of town and fruit carts are ubiquitous.
There are some coffee house pits with pleasant views of the rice paddies around Ulee Kareng along Jl Tengku Iskander on the west bank of the town. Three fast food restaurants can be found downtown, A&W, KFC and Plut Pizza. As with all travel, common sense and good manners are all you need to get by in this small town.
But some are memorable. Although today Banda Aceh is safer than most European cities, it is still not best to go out after 10:00. 10 a.m. Because Sharia law is enforced, drinking alcohol is not allowed, although it is still possible. Violations of locally perceived interpretations of Sharia law can result in arrest by Sharia police, with corporal punishment and public ridicule imposed on the offending Muslim.
