Most gifts are neutral, giving +1 affinity. Everyone has their own preferences. What they do when they receive a gift is measured in relation. Special gifts are for special occasions. Instead of appearing in your reading area when giving gifts, they can be seen in the bottom left of the gift window.
Items you own will be grayed out but visible. If you find the item at some point, it will add its description by highlighting it even if you don't have it. All seasonal festivals multiply the harvest of friendship. This allows players to gain or lose double relationship points.
Gift Preferences[]
For example, if a character normally has +10 base points for roses, giving them flowers at a festival will instead yield +20 base points. Many characters have birthdays. When you reach your character's "Friend" level, birthdays are recorded on the calendar. When a character and player reach the "Friends" level, the character's birthday is displayed on the calendar.

Characters receive gifts and say today is their birthday, regardless of whether the player has reached the "Friends" level. However, stumbling upon someone's birthday doesn't add it to the calendar. Relationship is tripled when you give a gift on your birthday, e.g. +10 items can be tripled to +30.
The multiplier only takes higher multipliers into account if a person has a birthday on an occasion or celebration, in this case: birthday. A wish or wish is a gift that a character wants. Letters that want a specific item are indicated by red symbols on the map. On the map, the description reads "NPC wants something".
Special Gifts[]
The person who gets the desired item has the desired image in the "chat" interaction; interacting with them will cause them to reveal the item to the player. The item will also display a wish icon in the form of a gift if found in the player's inventory.
Birthday or anniversary relationship bonuses come into play when you gift something you want. Some items allow players to receive gifts from other players. Players can sometimes earn additional rewards, called tips, for completing tasks. These boards are marked at the top with a special red stamp featuring a thumbs up and two cautions, surrounded by a circle.

Gifts Given To The Player[]
My Time at Portia gift guide is a great resource for making sure you're giving the right gift for your relationship. Hey...if you're a gift expert, check out my tips in 9 Things You Wish You Knew Before You Entered Portia. One way to find out what NPCs like and don't like is to bring them to a round table and ask them what they like and what they like.
You can use this method twice and they usually have different reviews each time. Another option for playmates is to take them to the desired tree. Sometimes, it's an opportunity to ask them what kind of gift they would like. Another sign is their work.
Gust, for example, is an architect, so he loves receiving old world books on architecture. However, sometimes this can be hit or miss. For example, Alice runs a flower shop. He likes (dislikes) pots, tillage, and manure, but doesn't interfere with flowers. What NPCs see in the museum is an indicator of their preferences.
If you get too deep into the game, sometimes you'll see it in the corner saying an NPC saw a relic. For example, if Alice goes to a museum and she sees strange glass jars, you have a friendly chat with you. Give him the magic glass jar and he will be happy.
