The MAC Select 2023 Anniversary Gift is a full patent in any shade of your choice. To purchase your gift, you must purchase the item in-store or online. I am writing about my experience because this month is the first time many MAC Select members have received these emails and paid for them.
I hope this post helps you - if you are waiting for your email or want to know more about the program and the award. You can collect your gift in store or online; I chose to pick up my gift in store because the MAC store in our store was recently remodeled.
I went to a MAC store in the Bay only to be told that this gift can only be purchased in store - something that would have been nice to clarify ahead of time. It seems that regardless of your status (I'm a loyal member, which means I have to spend $200 a year), you get the same bonus.
Mac Select Anniversary Gift – The Process
My experience: I have to say that MAC really needs to work on their customer service game - something that I expected to spend 5 minutes at the checkout (with no lines), turned out to be a 30 minute process of messing around 1 ) having a "code" to enter the system to pay and 2) lack of clarity on whether a purchase is required to receive a gift.
To clarify, yes you have to buy something, but since there is no minimum reference, I believe you can buy a sheet for $1 and also pay for the gift) to get your gift. All you have to do is show your email (which should include your MAC ID) to the merchant partner who will view your profile and process the payment.
MAC customer service is nothing to write home about, so once you exclude the bad customer service experience, I have to say that the MAC Yan anniversary gift is a lovely choice. Patentpolish is one of my favorite MAC products and formulas. I've written an in-depth review of the formula before if you're curious!
I have been a member of the MAC Select program since their inception. Since there's no physical card to show your membership (you have to provide your email at the store) it's easy to forget that there's even a membership system in the first place.
Thoughts On The Mac Select Program – 1 Year Later
Unlike Sephora, I don't get many promotional emails from MAC, so one could be forgiven for forgetting about the membership program altogether. The Good: I am very grateful for the many promotional sales and discounts that occur several times throughout the year. The amount of the discount is also very significant (25% off) - much higher than what you get at other chains like Sephora or The Bay.
If I remember correctly, there have been about 3 of these sales since the program started - they also happened at unexpected times (ie not during holidays or prime shopping times), so it's almost like a sale that you can be planted between special sales.

year Bad: It would be really nice to have a physical card or an app to scan during checkout. It helps speed up the process and reduce confusion and help you get the right credit when making your purchase. I didn't notice much or significant difference in benefits between the different levels of the program.
Other than the fact that you get a free 30-minute repair and first access to certain collections, the rest of the benefits are the same in all 3 levels of the program. Hopefully, as the program expands and grows, we can see more than just perks.
How To Get The Mac Birthday Gift – Details / Process
Overall, I really like the MAC Select anniversary gift - very generous and I like being able to choose my own color instead of having a shade chosen for me. There is still a lot of uncertainty and confusion surrounding this process, so some clarity in communication would be appreciated.

The announcement was made in early January, and I've updated this post to reflect the new nomenclature and the corresponding benefits for each tier. Below is part of the email campaign that went out to announce the changes and learn more about the new benefits, here's a link to MAC's website.
The MAC Loyalty Program has changed! Formerly known as the MAC Select program, it has been rebranded as the MAC Lover loyalty program, although most of the benefits remain the same! It's safe to say that the MAC Select program might be the best beauty loyalty program of all time – at least in Canada!
