NewsChannel 9's Andrew Donovan took one of the gift cards and tried to buy $30 worth of children's shoes from LittleWanderers.com. With $30 of credit left, the website still asked for credit card information to cover the $18 shipping charge. While the scheme is not entirely illegal and online stores sell genuine products, the investigation shows that the company pretends to offer credit, but charges more for shipments not covered by the gift cards.
The same finding is consistent with complaints filed with the Better Business Bureau by customers who were charged more for shipping than if they hadn't used a gift card. All of the businesses listed on the gift cards are operated by Mothers Lounge, which did not respond to NewsChannel 9's request for comment.
