La Jolla Gift Shop

Katie Dillon is a La Jolla mom. She spends a lot of time shopping in La Jolla, CA, and keeps track of the latest store openings and things to do. La Jolla shopping is one of the best in San Diego. Home to everything from cute boutiques to high-end brands, our retail therapy includes browsing for unique souvenirs, special occasion wear, and just about everything in between.

These recommendations for shopping in La Jolla are divided into six areas that I've mapped below: Prospect Street, Ivanhoe Avenue, Herschel Street, Girard Avenue, La Jolla Shores, and the Westfield UTC center. Much of the best shopping is in downtown La Jolla, otherwise known as La Jolla Village.

One could very easily start on Prospect Street, shop Ivanhoe Avenue and Herschel Street, and end with a long stroll down the mile-long strip of boutique shops and beyond on Girard Avenue. I'll tell you how to do that. Along the way, you will pass more shops than mentioned on this list as well as many restaurants, coffee shops and cafes for refueling.

Prospect Street

Spending a day browsing and eating is one of the best things to do in La Jolla and a pleasure that we residents do to enjoy. These La Jolla boutiques are located downtown near various art galleries, Hotel La Valencia, and the Grande Colonial. Prospect Street is often referred to as San Diego's Rodeo Drive.

If you prefer to browse quality socially conscious products, then look no further than Social Concept where you will find handbags, womenswear (beautiful tunics and ponchos made in Cojutepeque , a town in El Salvador), jewelry, towels, baskets, and more artisan goods. A portion of the profits are also donated to charities.

Check the hours as they are not as regular as the other shops on this list (Mondays and Tuesdays are by appointment only). Alexia Maria is the luxury boutique of the famous young designer of the same name. Her designs have been featured in Vogue, InStyle, and Glamour, and worn by celebrities such as Gwen Stefani and Julianne Hough.

Inspired by the elegance of 1950s fashion, her line is a modern twist on the classics. Stunning dresses, in particular, embody a timeless femininity perfect for your next formal event. All the materials are handpicked by Alexia, and the quality shows - anything you see here will have people asking who you're wearing.

Color and comfort are the themes at this resort that dresses a wearer in comfortable clothes of all shapes and sizes. With bright colors, soft fabrics, and breezy styles, Fresh Produce brings casual east coast fashion to La Jolla. You'll find Nantucket-esque pastels, chinos, and sun hats, along with more West-Coast-style flip flops, tank tops, and baseball caps.

It's also perfect for guests who forget to pack something for their trip, whether it's a cover-up for the beach or a sweatshirt for the unexpected June Gloom. A family business founded in 1986, CJ Charles carries fine jewelry and estate pieces, along with luxury watches from Cartier, Patek Philippe, Montblanc, and more.

As well as being certified stockists of some of the most well-known jewelery brands, they also have their own line of handcrafted pieces, called the Riviera Collection. They are known for their excellent customer service as well. The knowledgeable staff will help you every step of the way in finding the right piece for you - whatever it is.

Does the watch need to be repaired, or the ring size changed? They also offer in-house services. We at Olive call themselves the "Olive Oil Experience," and that's exactly what you get here and more. Selling only locally sourced products, they focus on olive oil, but also have a large range of other natural and organic gourmet foods.

It's a foodies' paradise with wines, cheeses, specialist dips, spreads and even sweeter treats like caramel and almond brittle. The wine bar on their outdoor patio is where you can also enjoy happy hour drinks and small bites overlooking La Jolla Cove. Opened in 1983, Pomegranate is a boutique featuring "art-to-wear" clothing and jewelry for women.

Their style is edgy and easy, very high quality but still wearable every day. Walking into this airy and open store, you'll feel like you're walking into a local art gallery. The store is an opportunity to showcase local and international labels, with a focus on products from small designers and artists.

Go back a little on Prospect Street from Pomegranate and turn right on Ivanhoe Avenue. The small array of businesses on the first block are locally owned and a La Jolla shopping gem you won't want to miss. Owner Molly Rossettie describes her bright and cheerful little shop as "the gift boutique for all occasions," which is exactly right.

Hi Sweetheart has a carefully curated collection of cute, creative products. Everything in stock is selected. Some of the items are San Diego and La Jolla themed while others are from small companies and businesses around the world. You'll find everything from artful greeting cards, quirky party decorations and shiny drinkware to artisan clothes and baby toys.

Whether you're going to a bachelorette party or a kids' birthday party, or looking for a souvenir you'll really want to keep, stop by this gift shop. (I have the La Jolla version of the San Diego bag and love it). Continue walking on Ivanhoe away from Prospect.

Turn right onto Wall Street (next street). Walk one block to Herschel Avenue, cross the street, and turn right down Herschel onto Prospect Street. Herschel Avenues is a mix of artisan styles and beach fashion (although you do pass Tommy Bahama and a few other Wall Street stores).

Diane offers anything and everything a woman could need for a trip to the beach. While they offer relaxed, typical California-beach-five fashion, they go beyond to include more feminine and stylish options. So, while you'll find plenty of raglan shirts and Havaianas, you'll also find designer swimwear, rompers, and dresses.

Their biggest seller is definitely their swimwear, of which they have a lot. Although most of their client base is in their 30s or 40s, they cater to all ages: from teenagers to women sixty-five and over. Brands range from better-known franchises such as Roxy and Billabong to independent labels, offering some of the more unique pieces.
