Before you pay a credit card annual fee, you should weigh the value of the card's benefits against the costs. The Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card offers high earning power and many benefits for frequent travelers.
But is the card worth the $95 annual fee? In this article, you'll learn about the benefits of Sapphire Priority, how many points you earn on the card, and how to maximize the value of these rewards. With that knowledge, you can decide if this travel rewards credit card is right for you.
What Benefits Does The Chase Sapphire Preferred Offer Cardholders?
As the younger sibling to the Chase Sapphire Reserve ®*, the Chase Sapphire Preferred comes with a much lower annual fee of $95. Plus, it earns rewards at generous rates on travel purchased through Chase and dining, and offers the same lineup of transfer partners as the more expensive Sapphire Reserve.

While you don't get all the bells and whistles you'd get on an ultra-premium card, Priority still offers a robust selection of travel protections. Cardholders get a lot of benefits from the Chase Sapphire Priority, which pays an annual fee if you use it. These include premium allowances, protection for your travel plans, purchase insurance and protection and more.
Here are some highlights: When you book flights, hotels, rental cars and more through Chase Ultimate Rewards®, points are worth 1.25 cents each (compared to a 1 percent value per point redeemed for cash back). Additionally, this option allows you to book with any airline, hotel or other travel provider without worrying about award availability or redemption rules.
Transferring your points adds value to any redemption option. Ultimate Rewards points can be transferred on a 1:1 basis to 11 airlines or three hotels, including Hyatt, United, Southwest and Marriott. When points are transferred, they add to your existing balances so you can book award reservations with these partners.
Points Are Worth 25% More When Booking Travel
When you book hotels through the Chase Travel Portal, you'll receive up to $50 per year in statement credits to reduce the cost of your reservation. This annual benefit helps offset the card's annual fee. But remember that you won't get bonus points on that purchase.
Get 10% bonus every year based on your annual spend. These points are in addition to the points you earn throughout the year. For example, if you spend $15,000 on your Chase Sapphire Preferred in a calendar year, you'll earn 1,500 additional points. Sometimes you need extra time to pay for your purchases.

Although this card doesn't offer a 0% introductory APR, you can repay purchases worth $100 or more in fixed monthly payments for up to 24 months with no interest charges. But be aware that if you use this service, you will be charged a fixed monthly fee when you make payments.
This benefit reimburses you prepaid, non-refundable travel expenses if your trip is canceled or interrupted due to illness, weather or other covered circumstances. Benefit limits are $10,000 per person and $20,000 per trip. Save money by declining the rental company's collision insurance on your rental card.
Transfer Points To Airline And Hotel Partners
Chase Sapphire Preferred provides basic coverage against damage or theft when you charge the full cost of the reservation to your card. Whether you rent in the US or abroad, you are covered for the actual cash value of the vehicle. When you arrive at your destination but your checked baggage doesn't arrive, it can be stressful.
You don't have a change of clothes, toiletries or other essentials. If your bags are delayed six hours or more, each person on your reservation will be refunded up to $100 per day for up to five days. With full flights and tight schedules, flights seem to be getting delayed more than ever.
This benefit covers non-refundable expenses if your flight is delayed for more than 12 hours or requires an overnight stay. You can be reimbursed up to $500 per person for food, lodging and related expenses. Your purchases are covered against loss or theft for 120 days.

Coverage limits are $500 per claim and $50,000 per account. Decline the extended warranty offer at checkout as Chase Sapphire Priority includes extended warranty protection on your purchases. Eligible purchases receive one additional year of warranty coverage on eligible warranties of three years or less.
Annual $50 Hotel Credit
Lyft, Instacard, DoorDash and GoPuff offer bonus points, test offers and monthly credit. Offer details and expiry dates vary by partner and must be activated manually. Foreign transaction fees are hidden charges that banks add to your transaction when you make purchases in other countries.
These fees typically add up to 3% of your transaction amount. But, the Chase Sapphire Preferred waives these fees, making it an ideal card if you're traveling internationally. Once your application is approved, you can add your card to your digital wallet to make purchases instantly.
Instant access is available via Apple Pay, Google Pay or Samsung Pay. The Chase Sapphire Preferred Card is ideal for travelers who want convenient rewards without paying a premium annual fee. With a reasonable $95 annual fee, this card earns up to 5 points per dollar spent on travel (when booked through Chase), and its rewards offer added value when redeemed for travel through the issuer's portal.
While the Sapphire Preferred doesn't offer airport lounge access like the $550-a-year Chase Sapphire Reserve®*, it does include free travel and purchase protection. These benefits protect your rental cars, luggage and travel plans. Additionally, eligible purchases are covered against loss or theft and receive an extended warranty.
