From above, you can see two female African elephants and one male. In the same area, visitors can also see the African Reptile Building, which is home to some of the world's deadliest snakes. The last part of this huge loop is the one-acre home of the lion.

The African Forest at the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens is a great place to see the great apes closer than ever. Visitors marvel at the 12-meter (40-foot) tall kapok tree, which serves as the heart and center of the exhibit. Here, Malayan and Sumatran tigers are free to roam the area through an innovative trail system. The play park has a 2.5 acre children's play area beyond the range of jaguars and wildlife carousel. Kids can find their way through two mazes, then climb, jump and get wet on the splash ground. They can also mimic squirrel monkeys by climbing vines in front of animals.

Children's favorites include the treehouse, rock wall, forest play area and penguin tunnel window in the play park. Kids who want to get up close and personal with animals can brush West African pygmy and Nigerian pygmy goats in the animal care area. Explore the winding halls of the fascinating Lost Temple and see wild snakes, poisonous dart frogs, anacondas, vampire bats, Utila spiny-tailed iguanas, and more. After coexistence you must experience the Emerald Forest Aviary to see some of the best birds in the world. At the aviary, look out for the arapaima, the largest freshwater fish, which can reach 4.6 meters in length.

The River Valley Aviary is a two-storied enclosure covering 9,000 square feet and is home to exotic birds. Free-flying birds include yellow-billed stork, Abdim stork, African spoonbill, white-bellied little bustard, turacos etc. Kids love this interactive exhibit where they can pet and feed stingrays.
