Huntington Library Gift Shop - The Friends of the Huntington Beach Library offers a variety of quality programs and special events for our members and community throughout the year. Members have early access to registration and discounted pricing on all programs. Friends of the Library is a membership-based non-profit organization.

We offer affordable membership options and a collection of benefits for our members. New friends are always welcome, join us today! Our popular used bookstore, located on the main level of the Central Library, has over 5,000 books, magazines, CDs, DVDs and more on our shelves at any given time.

We also accept your Used Book donations. Friends Gift Shop offers a wide variety of unique gifts, cards, stationery and home decor. Sign up or renew your FOTL membership while you shop. Members save 10% on regularly priced items. Friends of the Huntington Beach Library is an all-volunteer, member-supported, non-profit organization that raises funds to focus public attention on the library, to enrich its collection of books, digital and other resources;

and develop and expand innovative educational programs, library services, and community outreach. Covering HBPL's five branches, volunteers operate the Friends gift shop and used bookstore, coordinate online book sales, marketing, public relations, quarterly newsletter, social media posts, develop, execute and deliver dynamic programs and special events.

Friends of the Library (FOTL) was established in July 1971 as a non-profit organization to help raise funds for the purchase of items and books not in the library budget. Seeing the need for energetic, non-profit work in this area, we created our organization to provide sensible solutions.

Volunteers are always needed for the gift shop areas, programs, used book sales, and Friends newsletters. Book donations are welcome year-round for the used book sale. There is a bin for donated books in the rear loading dock of the Central Library. Patrons who need help unloading donations should come Monday, Wednesday or Friday mornings from 8:00 a.m.

at noon or call ahead to make special arrangements. Book donations are also accepted at all library offices. The Friends of the Library accepts donations of books, media (CDs, DVDs, records), art, small scale antiques and collectibles. Contact Goodwill or the Salvation Army for other donations.

Stocking Stuffers

Now it's easier than ever to support your library by buying used books through Amazon's FOTL online book sales, where you can find a great deal on a used book and order it without ever leaving your home. Residents donate many thousands of books a year to FOTL, which are sold at ongoing book sales located on the main floor of the used book center.

Volunteers are always needed to help prepare, sort and price books at Friends Workplace. The Adopt-A-Book program allows you to commemorate a special person, date or event by placing a personalized book in the library's collection. For a donation of $25 or more, the library will help you identify the right book, enter a library containing the tribute message, and send an acknowledgment of your generosity to the appropriate party.

Imagine a beautiful book about art or gardening, history or poetry, named after a special person or event in your life. With Adopt-A-Book, book lovers will enjoy your contribution and see you commemorated for years to come. To Adopt-A-Book, simply fill out a form and mail or drop it off at any HBPL library.

Volunteers operate and customize the Friends Gift Shop in the Central Library. The shop rents out bestsellers (books can be reserved for free) and sells a wide variety of cards, jewellery, activity books and specialist gift items. Volunteers are needed to staff the store or help with general store operations.

Just For Fun

FOTL offers various holiday speakers and programs. Volunteers are needed to help plan, organize and advertise these events. You can also support FOTL by attending an author lunch event where you can hear a live talk from the author and enjoy a great lunch. Other programs include excursions and the annual Wassail Christmas Party.
