If you want to use your gift card balance at another retailer, you must place a new order. If you purchased or received a gift card before November 18, 2020, you can still redeem it through your Instacart account. However, these gift cards do not cover service costs and shipping fees, gratuities, taxes, prescriptions or alcoholic beverages.

You must add a credit or debit card at checkout to use your gift card, even if the gift card covers the full amount of your purchase. Note: Instacart will charge your gift card for all items added during checkout or after checkout, unless the amount exceeds the authorized amount.

If the order total after adding items exceeds the authorization hold, the credit or debit card on file will be charged, even if you have enough money on the gift card to cover the additional items.
