One change comes in the form of a new grill that cooks the protein for Chipotle's menu items. In the last quarter, The restaurant has started using clamshell grills at 10 of its locations, and a Chipotle spokesperson said the chain is adding the grill to 10 more restaurants to see how it performs.
Grilling jobs at the average Chipotle restaurant are one of the most difficult positions to train for, Niccol said when an analyst asked about the new grills. Grills cook faster and more consistently than meals, Niccol added. "The chicken goes from 12, 13 minutes to 2, 3 minutes, perfect sear, perfect char," he says.

Chipotle began offering digital mentoring in its stores in recent months, Niccol said, "as part of our ongoing efforts to improve the benefits of our team members." Starting in late 2022, customers will start ordering fajita vegetables as one of the chain's quesadillas. Some also order Chipotle-Honey Vinaigrette with their quesadillas.
The trend was started by TikTokers including Alex Frost and Keith Lee who watched the mix. Chipotle worked with Frost and Lee to turn custom ordering into a regular menu item, Niccol said. The move streamlined production for employees who previously had to fill orders as a special request from customers who had watched the videos.
Niccol said the TikTok-inspired mashup was "unique." "During launch, we nearly doubled our quesadilla business and had our best two digital sales days ever," he said. "The best part is that it's made with all existing ingredients, which limits added complexity to our restaurants, and we continue to see increased quesadilla sales thanks to this introduction," said Niccol.

Chipotle plans to expand its restaurant network to 7,000 stores in North America in the coming years. It currently has just under 3,200 stores in the US. In addition to traditional restaurants, The chain has opened special locations and windows, called Chipotlanes, dedicated to filling online orders.
