You mainly cut the felt and use a hot glue gun. Have you ever seen those hot chocolate snowmen piled up around during your Internet travels? You have to admit - they are so cute. I recently saw this video and thought, “I need to make my own version right away!”
Who doesn't love snowman hot chocolate cups, especially when they're filled with delicious chocolates, marshmallows and mints? I imagine teachers, neighbors, dog walkers, Santa's secret recipients would love them. . . or anyone, really! With some basic Michaels mason jar craft supplies, I made these silly snowmen with ease.
I can't wait to hand them out and see the smiles they are sure to bring. This is how I made these Christmas mason jars! I am completely in love with these quilted mason jars! These 4 oz. Size is key for your project (and I can tell you it fits, it's the perfect size for stacking snowman hot chocolate cups).

The painting part is quite simple and uses two of the bottles. I used an eyeliner brush to add the nose with orange acrylic paint. And dots for eyes and buttons? I just used the bottom part of the brush to apply some black! Just dip it in the paint, then dot the front of the bottle.

It's that simple. Let it dry. For the scarf, cut a strip of aqua felt about 1 cm wide. The easiest way to do this is to use a ruler, a box cutter (make sure the blade is sharp!) and a mat. Make sure the strip is long enough to fit the cup.
First, I cut the strip really wide and really long, then shortened it to make sure the proportions were right and my snowman wouldn't melt into the scarf. The next step is the hat. You will need enough for two separate pieces for each snowman.
You want a round piece that will be the brim of the hat, and so you need a long piece that fits all the way around and is the main part of the top hat. First, cut your long piece the same way you did your scarf.

Unscrew the mason jar ring and make sure it fits properly with a slight overlap. Trim to fit. You will now make the hat brim - so watch carefully! You need an object that is slightly larger than the glass vial ring. . . in my case it was a holder that I had in my hands.
You can use absolutely anything. But of course you want the border to stand out a bit, so you choose your item! Trace it with a silver marker (so you can see it on the black felt). The edge fits around the mason jar ring (nice), so I placed the ring on the inside of the larger circle and then traced the inside of the ring.

So I made three cuts. I cut the outside edge off as you can see above. I cut along the dashed line to the center of the circle. THEN I cut out the inner circle but made it bigger than the line I just drew.
You can see my crop marks in blue above. I found that cutting the felt this way provided the tightest possible fit. And you put the seam – where you cut on the dashed line – on the back so it's not visible. Before gluing any of your items, fill the jars with the appropriate goodies.

It will be easier later - you won't have to unscrew the cups again. I added marshmallows on top, hot chocolate in the middle and mint on the bottom. Make sure you do this on a food safe surface and wash your hands first. I found the best way to glue the cups together was to place four dots from the hot glue gun as shown.
Can he handle it? Absolutely! And the cup lids will be easy to unscrew. Place the four hot glue gun dots as shown above and quickly place the container on top to secure it. Do this with the middle container on top of the bottom and then the top container on top of the middle.
Let cool. Attach the edge around the edge of the top container with a hot glue gun. Mine fits perfectly! Note: The good news about felt is that it has some flexibility. If you find it doesn't fit. . . stretch it. Now add the top of the hat by placing a dollop of hot glue around the rim of the pot and folding the hat.

Make sure the seam is on the back (and you can hot glue it down if your hat looks weird). To complete the snowman hot chocolate cups, place the scarf around the cups (as shown) and secure with dabs of hot glue. Your boys are done!

I can't believe how cute they turned out. Note that they are easy to unscrew - and frankly, easy to tear and remove hot glue. That's what I love about hot glue. Not only are these snowmen awesome gifts, but you can reuse them when they're done.
