Heaven Hill Gift Shop
This is a very informative and interesting study of the history of bourbon. After the tasting we spent some time and money in the gift shop, they have a great selection of foods, drinks and gifts. Worth a stop on the bourbon trail! After Jim Beam's tour my son and I hit the road to Heaven Hill Distillery.
We got there after the last tour left, but the story wing was worth it. Very good. We followed the bourbon trail up to Heaven Hill and it was amazing. They have a wonderful gift shop and we wandered around for a short while. They have a few to choose from starting at $5.00 and up.
There was a bourbon tasting at the end of each tour. Our tour guide was very nice and the taste was very good. The whole thing lasted about an hour. There are no children on this tour and the tour is inside the building. We liked it because other tours are longer and take you to their own distilleries.

Since the process is the same, this shortened tour is enough. There are bathrooms conveniently located in the building. Nowhere in the name does it say 'distillery tour' so for anyone thinking this will take you to a distillery, you have been advised. I remember when it was new and free.

You can see the film, check out the exhibits, and sample some great bourbon for free. Not anymore. They've jumped on the bandwagon and now charge different prices for different "experiences" and the privilege of tasting some of their products. And you can get a keepsake glass to take home.
You can get your Bourbon Trail passport stamped without a tasting tour. If you have no idea how to make or enjoy bourbon, you can learn something here. You won't have the hands-on experience of seeing and smelling the fermentation, distillation, bottling, etc. You will learn the history, techniques and be guided through a bourbon tasting.
I think the KY Bourbon Trail Member Distillers are doing a disservice to people trying to complete the tour. Charging people $5-$25/tour is excessive and discourages people from leaving with a warm and friendly feeling from their experience. Why would I buy anything when I can just drop $9 to see the same thing with a different name?

The exhibits at the Center are informative and free. I think the film should also be shown for free. The real highlight of the Bourbon Heritage Center is the bar/tasting room. It's like you're inside a barrel of bourbon and the craftsmanship is amazing. beautiful. You will not enter unless you take a tasting tour today.
Friendly staff, large selection in the gift shop of clothing, bar items, snacks, etc. I want to thank the SalesLadies in the shop. They were very helpful in finding the stuff I needed "Fighting Cock Bourbon". I didn't wander around and it was fun to talk and laugh with the women who work there.

It does not contain an age statement and the proof is always 125, but is generally believed to contain the old ECBP spirit. Can't wait to try, so let's go. Oak, honey, orange peel. Pepper, pipe tobacco. A little dry on the nose, but there is a nice savory richness.
Dry, woody, full of cocoa and cherry. Dark chocolate, some orange peel. Slightly syrupy fruit, like there's a faint sherry in there. Not a ton, just a grain. Not too hot for a try, surprisingly. Short, dry, a little warmer than expected here. Really crunchy, but dry.
