Healing Is A Gift
At one time or another we have all prayed for healing. It could be for yourself, a loved one or someone you don't even know. We serve a God who heals. And one of the ways He heals is through the gift of healing. The gift of healing can manifest in many ways and look different than we expect.

If you are new to the gift, I encourage you to read it. 7 But the revelation of the Spirit is given to each one for the good of all, 8 because one is given the word of knowledge by the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge is given by the Spirit, 9 Faith in the other through him.

Spirit, to another the gift of healing by the same Spirit, 10 to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another the discernment of spirits, to another the interpretation of different languages, to another the interpretation of tongues. 11 But one spirit makes all these things and separates them.

1 Corinthians 12:7-11 NKJV (emphasis added in bold) When writing about the gifts I thought it might be easier to break down the information by answering the 5 Ws. If you are not familiar with the 5 W's, it basically means, Who, What, When, Where and Why.
The W's below probably don't go in that order, but I'll answer each one according to the healing gift. And for now I've left out the "when". If in the future I come across a question or helpful reading that has some suggestions… I'll add it to the post.
But I'm sure this structure helps make things clearer and easier to digest. The gift of healing is the supernatural ability to minister healing through the power of God. I love how one minister called it... "It is the power of God to destroy the work of the devil in the flesh" of all the gifts mentioned in 1 Corinthians is the plural of healing.
What Is The Purpose Of The Gift Of Healing?
It is not a gift of healing, but a gift of healing. The gifts of healing are plural, meaning different healings. We do not fully understand this. We know that not all healing is physical, there is mental, spiritual and emotional healing that takes place as well.
May God heal him and touch him. We also have countless stories of ministers and Christians who would apply special anointing to certain ailments such as blindness or cancer. And there are many ways healing is recorded in the New Testament: we don't know completely, but it makes sense when you see that Paul uses the plural and not the singular.

Some healing is gradual and some is immediate. We also see this in the Holy Scripture: Then Jesus stretched out his hand, touched him, saying: "I want to be cleansed." His leprosy was immediately cleared. - Matthew 8:3 31 Then he came and took him by the hand and lifted him up;
and immediately the fever left him. And she served them. - Mark 1:31 Then he asked them: "When did that hour become better?" And they said to him: "Yesterday at the seventh minute the fever left." - John 4:52 22 Then he came to Bethsaida.
What Are Some Examples Of The Healing Gift In The Bible?
And they brought him a blind man and asked him to touch him. 23 So he took the blind man by the hand and led him out of the city. And when he spat in his eyes and laid his hands on him, he asked him if he had seen anything.
24 He looked up and said, "I see people walking like trees." 25 Then he put his hands over his eyes and looked up. And he became even calmer, everyone could clearly see. 26 Then he sent him to his house and said to him: "Do not go into the city and do not tell anyone in the city."
Mark 8:22-26 Medicine, whether natural or traditional, should not be confused as a gift of healing. God encourages people to find cures, surgeries and medicines, but this is not a gift. The gift of healing goes beyond natural means and brings healing. This does not mean that God does not use doctors or medicine to heal.

He does, but it is outside of this gift. The purpose of therapy is pretty self-explanatory. It is about improving people and freeing them from the slavery of disease. So they can live and follow God's plans for them on this earth. It builds the church, testifies to God's power and goodness, and brings the lost to God.
What Are Some Examples Of The Healing Gift In The Bible?
This shows that Jesus is alive and moving in His church! We see this all over the New Testament! Healing is as abundant as miracles in the scriptures! They are everywhere, especially in physical therapy. From Genesis to Revelation we see God's hand moving in healing.
God never intended for us to experience sickness and experience death. All this happened because of the fall. Here are just a few passages in the Bible about healing: Pursue love and seek spiritual gifts, but especially to prophesy. - 1 Corinthians 14:1 I say this in my posts about the gifts of the Spirit, but it is important!
The apostle Paul clearly states that we should pursue love (most important) and seek spiritual gifts. This word literally means desire or passion. Like the gift of miracles, we place the gift of healing in this place where it is only for special anointed ones who work in ministry.
But the truth of the matter is that every believer in Christ can walk in the gift of healing. We just have to ask God for it. There are countless testimonies of Christians praying for their brother or sister in Christ and witnessing healing. My uncle had a growth on his throat.
