According to Santa Monica Studios, God of War Ragnarök is the latest installment in the Norse era. The game launches for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 on November 9; Released in 2022. In Midgard, three years after the start of Fimbulwinter, Kratos and Atreus are returning home from hunting when they are attacked by Freya, who fails to kill Kratos.
When the two of them return home, one of their wolves, Fenrir, is dying. Atreus chanted a dirge before mourning his father and asking him to let him bury the wolf. Kratos accepted and fell asleep at home. Kratos dreams of Faye, but is awakened by Mimir, who worries that Atreus will not return home after Fenrir is buried.

Brok and Sindri encounter a wounded Kratos who pleads for help to return to his home as Odin and Atreus are still with Mimir. Figuring that Kratos' magical protective staff has been broken, Brok offers his son and Sindri shelter in his home. Arriving home, Kratos is relieved to find Atreus safe, but not upset at how Atreus hid the fact that he was searching for Tyr and Loki himself.

But seeing that this path helps ensure Atreus' safety, Kratos accompanies him to the Jotunn's painting of Skoll and Hati, which actually contains a secret chamber inside that reveals the true fate of the two giant wolves. Tyr lives, but his mental health deteriorates, and after years of torture, he vows against violence. After Kratos clamors to join the team, Tyr joins, not as a soldier, but at least as someone with information. They all return to Sindri's house. Kratos and Mimir lament how easy times were before and how finding Tyr was probably Atreus' fault.

Atreus and Sindri sneak away from them to go to Midgard to try to recruit Freya. Atreus advises Jormungandr to avoid Ragnarok, and is disappointed that the only answer he gets at first is to go to the "Ironwood". Atreus meets Freya and reveals that he may be the last giant standing, and that Odin is making a brief visit to Midgard.
Freya doesn't follow and warns Atreus to never come near her. As they return home, Sindri comforts Atreus and reveals how Brok really died and how Sindri partially resurrected him. Both promise to be more honest with Brok and Kratos. Kratos, Mimir and Tyr plan to travel to Alfheim to find out what secrets Groa's Jotunn shrine holds.
Atreus unites and they face the Light Elves who control the light of Alfheim and its temple. Arriving at Groa's shrine, it is revealed to a shocked and horrified Tyr that he lied to Odin about the prophecy of Ragnarok. Instead of destroying all nine realms, the "Champion" would unify the realms with Asgard and destroy only the Aesir realm by war.

Tyr is horrified by the revelation and they go home. Tyr convinces Atreus that he may be the Jotnar's "champion", much to Kratos' annoyance. His father, Atreus, can't wait to be this war hero, retreating to his new room, he suddenly wakes up in the Ironwood in Jotunheim.

He is approached by Angrboda, a Jotunn who knows Loki and his fate, and shows him another side of the Giants realm. Finally, As almost all of Jotnar's soul was encased in marble, his father Atreus learned of the death, and Odin, Angrboda's grandmother Gryla consumes animal spirits for her pleasure.
Atreus and Angrboda revive a lifeless serpent by casting it with a Jotunn called "Jormungandr". The snake left with a word. Then Loki and Angrboda, who taunt Angrboda for her prophecy, and the two teenagers, how she cares more about the death of Farbauti (Kratos's Norse name).
For the safety of the Jotnar race, Angrboda tells Atreus to say nothing about his trip to the Ironwood. Angrboda helps Atreus return home, but is mistakenly transported to his home in Midgard. A concerned Kratos finds him and asks why he's been missing for two days.
Their tense reunion is interrupted by the attacking Valkyrie Vanadis. When she took over, She appears as Freya in battle armor. Atreus tries to save his father from her, but is prevented from fighting Freya, who asks her to temporarily team up with Kratos and Mimir in Vanaheim to escape Odin's curse.
