Indeed it is. How many stores have cedar growing on the floor and extending through the ceiling?
Instead of removing the old cedar trees when the building was built, they were left in place - at least some of them - and the building was built intact with them. Living trees present some interesting challenges in building maintenance, but they are a sight to behold.
It's great for visitors, but it's been a bit of a challenge for our maintenance crew over the years," said Martin, director of retail for Glacier Park Inc. The Cedar Tree Gift Shop is located in the village of Apgar on the southwest end of the lake.
Hazards And Warnings
McDonald is the largest of the 762 lakes in Glacier National Park, which covers 1,583 square miles (or more than a million acres) in Northern Montana. Glacier National Park is the fifth largest national park in the contiguous 48 states and one of the top 10 most visited.
Glacier National Park extends to the US-Canada border where it becomes Waterton Lakes National Park. Glacier Park Inc. also oversees lodging and retail operations there. At 4,000 square feet, Cedar Tree is the largest gift shop in Glacier National. It contains about 3000 articles. It was Glacier Park Inc. "several years ago."

It was privately owned before the purchase, Martin said. Martin took part in a Q&A with the Museum and more to talk a little more about the Cedar Tree gift shop, which is open from May to October. JM: I always buy products; I take pictures of everything I like.
When I see something beautiful, I think about how I can incorporate it into a mug or t-shirt design. I attend shows and always shop at a different store when I'm away for work or vacation. JM: Yes, we hire seasonally. We provide opportunities for students from different countries to work.

We always try to rent locally and many retirees are interested in visiting different national parks. It's sad to see employees leave, but it's always exciting to see new employees and meet people from all over the world. JM: T-shirts, mugs, and magnets sell a lot.
Our guests also have an ice cream coffee bar where they can sit by the lake and enjoy their dessert. An interesting thing we sell is thousands of Christmas decorations in one place in the middle of summer! Have you worn something unusual that usually gets a reaction from customers?
JM: We carry PooPoo paper, which is actually paper that uses recycled animal waste. JM: I like to see how vendors present themselves at trade shows. They know their products best and want to see you in the best light. JM: My pet peeve is when the store is a mess.

It's all about the little things and housekeeping to make it the perfect place for guests to stop on their travels. What's the best piece of retail advice you've ever received or could give to someone else? JM: Always evolving. The second you stop growing, your competition will overtake you.

Glacier is a truly magnificent national park. How was it working there? JM: I love it. I'm from Montana and Glacier has always been one of my favorite places. It's great to hear people say how amazing it is and to sit back and realize that this is a place we all call home.
