Gift Wrap Organizer Over The Door - As part of my 31 day challenge, I tackled the one closet I've always dreaded...my closet. Not only was it overflowing with junk like cleaning supplies, extra toiletries, towels, and board games, but it also contained all the wrapping paper, ribbon, gift bags, and more.

Gift Wrap Organizer Over The Door

So I decided enough was enough! I wasn't going to spend another day praying that rolls of wrapping paper wouldn't be thrown at me when I opened the door. I looked around hoping to find something that would work. My only criteria is that the wrapping paper stays in the closet and doesn't migrate to another area of the house.

I was already running out of space and had nowhere else to store my inventory. With a few quick searches for organizational ideas, I found something that might work! The I Heart Organization shared the beautiful way a reader used an out-of-door solution to store all of their gift wrapping supplies.

They were inspired by the Better Homes and Gardens post here. That would be perfect for me! But being on a budget I couldn't afford the money an Elfa storage system would cost. A quick trip to Target and I found a cheaper version of the door stand within my budget: a ClosetMaid 8-Tier Adjustable Door Stand found here .

For $35 I had everything I needed to make this project work... until my husband came home and informed me that we had a hollow core door and needed hollow core anchor screws or something. So he took on the project and instead of using an over the door hook he screwed it into the door and it turned out beautiful!

Without using all of the included shelves, I was able to create the perfect over-the-door wrapping paper storage solution. Now I have my wrapping paper, gift bags, ribbon, tags, scissors, ribbon and bows all in one area. Clean and easily accessible. And I'm so in love!

This will definitely help me remember what to put away and what we have too much of! I had to clean out a lot of bags so I didn't have to store them elsewhere, but for the most part I have everything I need for gift wrapping.

I like! I really need to organize my house. I can never find the time. It's not always like that. Maybe I should accept a challenge too. I like this idea of keeping all packing items together. Mine are usually in five different spots and it's a pain.

About Me

Angie Holden shares her crafting tips so you can craft like a pro! This over the door gift wrap organizer is a great way to keep wrapping paper, gift bags and other gift wrapping items neat and tidy. Reduce the time it takes to wrap your next gift!

All you need is a shoe organizer and a fabric to make this practical organizer. If you're like me, you have so many gift bags. And the gift bags come with plenty of tissue! I needed a solution but wasn't willing to spend a lot of money on a fancy organizer.

So I made it to fit in the back of our seasonal storage cupboard. This solution is magical…and cheap! I used a regular over the door shoe organizer (also available at Wal-Mart, Dollar Tree and other retailers!) and made a wrapping paper organizer in about an hour.

This project only requires a little sewing, but the end result is worth it. Like I said, I have a lot of gift bags and I needed something to hold them, so I made a bag on the bottom row of the shoe organizer to put the gift bags in.

than the organizer. Then cut both sides down at an angle so that one end is the width of the organizer and one end is 3 inches wider than the organizer. This seems counterintuitive, but it will give you the right amount of fabric to work with when it comes time for the elastic.

The length of the fabric is up to you, but it should be long enough when folded in half to add your gift bags inside. I used one of my larger gift bags to determine how long I needed the bag. Then I added another 4cm to the top for the seam.

Now that you have determined the length and width, fold the fabric in half so that the crease is how you want the bag to fit in your organizer. Sew both sides (left and right) and make them even. The front of the bag will be loose as it has another 3 inches but we will be adding elastic soon so don't worry.

You should now have a bag with a raw top edge. Turn the raw edge down twice to the inside of the bag so you have a finished edge at the top and sew all the way through. Next, cut a wide piece of elastic 3 inches smaller than the width of your organizer.
