Gift Of Recovery
Remember when you couldn't stop telling people how you changed? However, like all things, this too may be over. And life is in complete flux—for better and for worse. It is very easy to be blinded by the three horses: money, possessions and honor. Many addicts and alcoholics have given up on their quest because of these issues.
Then take the back seat and think, "I got this." However, approaching peace this way can set you up for confusion, stress, and a false sense of self that can lead back to waiting. Finding balance is key. When life feels overwhelming, consider these 7 gifts of a life free of alcohol and drugs.
No matter what challenges you face today, remember: you are sane and that means you are one of the winners. The height was a job and it took all you got. But today you are free and have the opportunity to make good decisions. You don't have to make excuses or disappear because you decide to go on a bender, one more time.
1. You Are Present For Life
Today you can live with love, compassion and understanding. When you're high, you really don't have enough time to figure out who you really are. The person you thought you were may be far from the truth. Recovery allows you to let go of those fakes, allowing you to become the person you are meant to be.

Through purity and discernment, you open up to your greatest truth and gain the honor of being your best person in this day and time. Many alcoholics and addicts drank and often ran away from the past. Maybe you were abused as a child or suffered other trauma.
Maybe you did things you swore you would never do or tell anyone about. Remember all the people you hurt? Once you commit to recovery, the horrors of the past lose their power. And it shouldn't be who you are now. Finally, you don't need to "sorry people".
In peace you will learn to use the word "no" and it will become your best friend. You don't have to do anything because you feel stressed, anxious or worried. Instead, you can relax when you're not sure, ask for guidance when needed, and say "no" without feeling guilty.
2. You Are Able To Know Yourself
Recovery is a spiritual journey. It's about developing a relationship with a higher power or God of your own consciousness. Even atheists have found ways to accept this idea. Today you are an investigator in your own spiritual development. You learn to use your will and your higher power.
And most importantly, you gain the power of faith by giving. Doing service takes your mind off of yourself and your problems. It can be any kind of volunteer work—just helping others is medicine for the soul. The 12th step is an expression of gratitude for your life and a call to help others.

The trials you went through put you in a position to be an inspiration to someone else. Now, when you feel stressed or confused in life, you can make a commitment to a meeting, speak on H&I (hospital and organization), or volunteer in your neighborhood.
These are gifts of healing that heal and set you free. Drinking and taking drugs translated into a life of personal crime, not to mention the mountain of consequences that followed. One of the greatest gifts in recovery is having your own spiritual toolbox. In this box you will learn that it is okay to be powerless, to tell someone about your mistakes, to examine your life and help others.
3. You Have Freedom From The Past
These are the tools of freedom. And it's not something you can buy. It's a process you use by being honest, open and willing. Subscribe to read the latest addiction news, motivational testimonials and health tips. Copyright © 2023 MH Sub I, LLC. All rights reserved.
