Gift Of Adoption Fund - It's no secret that adoption can be very expensive. However, there are several ways to reduce costs. Here is my list of adoption grants you should apply for. These are in no particular order. I have no personal connection to any of them and Adopting.org has no personal connection to them either.

I've also added a few more ideas on how you can afford to adopt. Before I get too far into my list, I also want to advise you that there are several different types of grants. The two different types I know of are fundraising grants and direct grants.
What is the difference? Fundraising grants are simply that you raise the money. Direct grants are grants offered free and clear by the organization that donates the money to you. Fundraising grants allow people to make a tax-deductible donation towards your adoption. There are a number of websites that allow this;
this is usually called adoption crowdfunding. I strongly recommend that you do your research and choose the site that you feel most comfortable with. We started the adoption process back in 2012 and started raising money through an organization called Ordinary Hero. They've changed the way they do things a bit since then, but they have a great fundraising tool for adoptions and missions.
Fundraising Grants
You can check them out on their website. You sign up as an Affiliate partner and whenever someone buys an off-market product, you get 30 percent of the sale. It was a really great tool for us and many of our family to buy things that would then go to the children in Ethiopia, so it was a double win!

However, there are a number of crowdfunding sites these days. One of the very nice features of these websites is that they allow people to make a tax-deductible donation, and some websites allow a monthly donation option. As you all know, some adoptions can be a very long process.
This will allow you to get more money for a longer period of time. That can be a win for everyone involved! In addition to fundraising grants, there is also the option of fundraising to offset some of the adoption costs. Some of these ideas include, but are certainly not limited to: creating and selling adoption t-shirts, personalized fundraising letters sent to family and friends, creating and selling adoption bracelets, garage sales, bake sales.
food sale, silent or online auctions, toy auction, holiday gift wrap offering, run/walk creation, cookbook drive, ice cream club, chili cook off, fantasy football/baseball/etc., March Madness, barn dance, casino night, murder mystery night, bingo night, car wash, paint party, karaoke party and much, much more.
Fundraising Grants
Be creative and know that nothing is off limits if you feel comfortable doing it and it will bring people to your event! Before you start, I strongly recommend that you prepare yourself. Most adoption grants require you to fill out extensive paperwork. It can be burdensome and overwhelming.
The more information you can get ahead of time and have ready to fill out, the easier the process will be. Grants are awarded in varying amounts depending on each institution. These funds can be used to cover adoption-related expenses for domestic, international, foster care and/or embryo adoption.
You can apply for as many adoption grants as you like, remember that it takes a lot of time to complete each application. As mentioned above, each adoption grant has its own set of requirements that you can apply for. They also have their own application process and paperwork.
Read each grant carefully and apply for the one that best fits your specific situation. After submitting your application, the grant organization will review your application and award grants as they see fit. Be aware that you won't get every grant you apply for. Each organization usually has a funding limit that it distributes at any given time.
Direct Grants
Don't let this stop you from applying for another grant or applying for more grants. You never know when you will receive a grant! Once you are notified that you will receive a specific grant, they will deposit the money into your adoption agency/organization. These funds are then applied to any balances owed to the agency.
It was a great financial relief for us. We only made a financial contribution and had one small grant from our adoption agency, but even with those it was a huge savings on adoption costs. I highly recommend applying for an adoption grant! Here is a list of adoption grants I felt drawn to and easily applied for.
Please note that there are a number of other adoption grants available. A simple Google search will show you hundreds if not thousands of adoption grants available. Some are specific to your type of adoption or where you live. I strongly encourage you to do your own research and find the ones that apply to your particular adoption.

I will also remind you that I am not affiliated with any of these organizations. The Adoption Hope Foundation is a grant for Connecticut families. They provide grants ranging from $500 to $15,000 to help offset adoption costs. Grants are awarded three times a year in February, June and October.
Direct Grants
You must have a valid home study and work with an accredited adoption agency to apply. You must also be a US citizen and live in the state of Connecticut. The application must also be submitted before the placement of the child. You can find more information on their website.
Be The One provides $500 grants to families in Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky. The Be The One Board of Directors meets quarterly to review and distribute grants. In order to apply, you must have a letter from your adoption agency stating that you are in the adoption process.
You must also provide a letter from the pastor of your home church recommending you for the grant. You must also provide a list of adoption expenses provided by your adoption agency, including what, if any, payment was provided. Finally, you must print and sign a copy of the Be The One Statement of Faith.
You can check them out on their website for more information. Dream4Adoption is a non-profit organization that awards $1,500 adoption grants directly to your adoption agency. They also provide an additional $500 upon completion of the post-admission process. Dream4Adoption offers grants twice a year, from May to September and from November to March.
