My mom also recently asked me what she would like to bring when she comes to visit next year. This got me thinking: What are the best gifts to buy in the US and then bring to India? In India I found I could get almost anything I needed.
However, there are things I wish I had a larger selection of, and some things I just CAN'T FIND. . When you're thinking about what to buy, here's an easy way to find out if something is cheaper in the US than in India. Just consider supply and demand... If a normal family in India would need it, then it's probably cheaper in India.

If that's what a typical American family would want, then it's probably cheaper in the US. If you come in the summer, avoid chocolate as it can melt as it is regularly over 105 F in the south. Check the price of one of my favorite chocolates on Amazon. Green, black, Manzanilla, Kalamata... or maybe you have strong feelings about what your olive is stuffed with?
Garlic, cheese or maybe allspice? There are so many options for olives in the US and my local grocery store only carries 1 or 2 types. American rock star Elvis Presley would eat peanut butter, banana and bacon sandwiches. Even if you don't need to experiment with peanut butter, there is no place in the world where you can't get more peanut butter than in the US.

Creamy, Crunchy, Extra Crunchy, Thick, Smooth, Unsweetened, Savory, No Salt, Flaxseed, Honey, Whey Protein, Jelly, Chocolate, Organic, Low Fat, All Natural... I could go on. It's safe to say you can bring some peanut butter and any red-blooded American will appreciate it. I live in a very healthy city and can't find protein powder in any grocery store.
I could buy a few on Amazon and there is a decent selection there, but nowhere near as extensive as what I found on US Amazon or in the grocery store. I love the low carb protein powder and there is only one variety on Amazon.
In addition, it is much more expensive. Price difference: 61% higher in India for 1 lb of whey protein. I was on a low carb diet in the US (not possible here, haha). I would take some extras like the PAGG stack. I would find 10 different product options in the US, even if it is a niche product.

Depending on your dietary needs and preferences, you may find yourself in a similar situation. The food here is very cheap and plentiful. However, if you want a specific and special supplement, you may not find it. It is a powerful antioxidant that will help you heal if you get Delhi Belly.
3. Olives
As soon as your stomach is not feeling well, eat some of this right away and it will protect you from stomach damage. It can also help treat urinary tract infections. It is rich in essential oils and antioxidants. There are also powerful antimicrobial agents that can kill more than 60 types of bacteria.
You can find a few capsule form options on Amazon, but I prefer the liquid concentrate. It tastes awful, but it works. Price difference: For 4 ounces* in India you will pay $58. In the US you pay $23. It is 2.5 times more expensive in India.
The raw almonds here are advertised as coming from California, so it makes sense that you would pay less for them in the US. I see 1 kg of California almonds for sale on Amazon for $13. it's not terrible. However, this is my travel food and I suggest it becomes yours (if you're cool too 😉 Don't feel pressured to bring pens, candy or toys to the local kids. It's a tricky thing because some of them may ask for gifts at a young age.
