These categories include 3x Chase Ultimate Rewards points on select streaming services and grocery delivery services with the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card and 10x points on hotel stays and car rentals purchased through Ultimate Rewards and the Chase Sapphire Reserve. It's important to know which purchases qualify in each bonus category so you can make an informed decision about which card to use for your spending.
For example, the list of eligible streaming services that earn bonus points on the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card is not as broad as what some other issuers classify as streaming. Here's a look at the Chase Sapphire Preferred and Chase Sapphire Reserve bonus categories and which purchases will (and won't) trigger bonus points.
Here we focus on the rewards and benefits that come with each card. These cards aren't worth it if you're paying interest or late fees. When using a credit card, it's important to pay off your balance in full each month, make payments on time, and only spend what you can afford.
Chase Sapphire Preferred Bonus Categories
The Chase Sapphire Preferred ® Card now has a limited-time welcome bonus offer of 80,000 bonus points after you spend $4,000 on purchases in the first three months of account opening (worth approximately $1,440 in travel based on Insider points and miles value ). It is scored in the following percentages: Some of these categories are easy to navigate, while others have specific restrictions.

The Chase Ultimate Rewards travel portal works like an online travel agency (OTA) and you can use it to book flights, hotels, rental cars, vacation rentals, activities and cruises. You have the option to purchase Ultimate Rewards points when you make your booking, when you pay with your Chase card, or a combination of the two.
When you use your Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card to pay for your booking — online through UltimateRewards.com or by calling the Chase Travel phone number on the back of your card — you'll earn 5 points per dollar spent. Prepaid airline tickets, hotels, car rentals and qualified cruises.
You will not earn anything for the portion of travel you pay for with points. The Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card earns 3 points on dining purchases. Chase classifies food as purchases by vendors whose primary business is sit-down or dine-in, including fast-food restaurants and fine dining establishments.
5X Points On All Travel Purchased Through Chase Ultimate Rewards
In practice, this includes some places that do not serve food as their primary business - think bars, breweries and coffee shops. Food delivery services qualify if they are classified as a restaurant merchant - so consider popular delivery services like GrubHub and DoorDash. However, if the location is inside a larger facility - such as a sports stadium or a vendor in a hotel restaurant - it does not qualify as a meal purchase unless the merchant designates such purchases to be classified in the restaurant category.
Bakeries, caterers and gift card vendors are also excluded. Earning bonus points on streaming services is timely because many of us still spend a lot of time at home. The Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card earns 3 points on some streaming services, but the key word here is select — only purchases from qualifying services qualify.

You'll earn 3x points when you use your card to pay for grocery pickup and delivery orders placed online with delivery service merchants that classify themselves as grocers, specialty stores or grocers (excluding membership and subscription fees).
5X Points On All Travel Purchased Through Chase Ultimate Rewards
Meal kit delivery services are also included, but purchases from Walmart, Target, wholesale clubs, liquor stores and merchants specializing in certain grocery items are not eligible. Purchases from pharmacies (even supermarkets), gift cards, gift boxes and gift baskets are not eligible. The good news is that Chase defines travel very broadly, and (outside of Chase Travel Portal purchases, which earn 5x) you'll earn 2x points for those travel purchases: Keep in mind that some expenses you may actually assume are travel.
Don't These Purchases Don't Earn Bonus Travel Points: Chase Sapphire Reserve now offers a welcome bonus of 60,000 bonus points after you spend $4,000 on purchases in the first three months after account opening. Insider pegs the value of Chase Ultimate Rewards points at 1.8 cents each, making the bonus worth about $1,080 in travel.
Some of these categories are restricted (and others are similar to parallel categories on the Chase Sapphire Preferred Card). Chase Dining is a platform in partnership with Talk that allows Sapphire cardholders to make reservations, take out or take out at participating fine dining establishments, attend private dining events and more.

When you use your Chase Sapphire Reserve® to purchase Chase prepaid meals through Ultimate Rewards, you'll earn 10 points per dollar spent. This includes delivery, pickup, advance reservation or reservation deposit if you pay for a purchase on UltimateRewards.com. However, any purchases related to reservations made directly at the restaurant will not qualify, nor will any portion of your purchase be paid for with points.
3X Points On Dining
If you use your Chase Sapphire Reserve to advance car rentals or hotels in Chase Ultimate Rewards (online or by calling the number on the back of your card), you'll earn 10 points per dollar. As with other Chase Travel Portal purchases, you will not earn anything for the portion of the transaction that you paid for with points.
Luxury hotel and resort collection purchases are not eligible and you will not earn bonus points on hotel or car rental-related purchases not made through Ultimate Rewards (such as hotel restaurants or over-the-counter car rental agency supplements). Likewise, you'll earn 5x on airfare every time you make a purchase with your Chase Sapphire Reserve ® through the Chase online portal or by calling the number on the back of your card.
Any air travel related purchases made outside of the Ultimate Rewards portal - such as flight purchases, airline miles purchases or purchases made at the airport - are not eligible to earn 5x points. And no part of the purchase you pay with points does anything.
All other travel and dining purchases not included in the above categories earn 3x points with Chase Sapphire Reserve ® – and qualifying purchases are identical to purchases on the Chase Sapphire Preferred ® card listed above.
