Here are her top tips. Every good gift basket needs a purpose. It can revolve around a specific holiday or special occasion, but a "just because" theme works too. "If I wanted to do something for a friend, and it wasn't his birthday, and it wasn't Christmas, I'd think - what does he like to do?"

Stephanie said. "See what people are interested in." Specific hobbies and fandoms are a good place to start, but so are general interests like traveling, cooking or gardening. Feel free to be creative! Once you have a theme, you'll want to set a budget. (Otherwise it's easy to go overboard!) And remember that you don't have to spend a lot to make a heartwarming gift basket—especially if you shop at a budget-friendly store like Marshalls or Target.

Gifts of homemade crafts and food also count. It's time to hit the shops! Choose 5-15 items (depending on the size of your basket) that fit your theme. Stephanie says, "Make a great package... think of all the little things that can fill the void."
And don't forget the most important thing: the basket! "Make the basket something you can actually use," suggests Stephanie. "Finding a useful basket is a good way to spend your money." Some of our favorite totes include tote bags, storage baskets, and crates. Once you've chosen all your goodies, it's time to decorate them in an attractive way.

Start with the heaviest items at the bottom or back of the basket, then layer up. You can use crinkle paper to add volume: "It takes up space and makes it beautiful," says Stephanie. Or, opt for functional fillers. "Take socks, a bathrobe, a beach towel, dish towel—something you can use to pack but you can also use," she advises.
