My parents were exceptional at keeping the magic of Christmas as long as possible. They didn't do anything too weird or special, but they also never let the true identity of Sinterklaas slip. We put cookies and milk on the table every year and every Christmas day we leave the table with nothing but crumbs and an empty glass.
After I was in bed they somehow got in and loaded the lounge room with presents. Our lounge room was covered in huge packed boxes of all shapes and sizes and our socks were standing up. To this day, I don't know where my mother kept all those things.
Not to mention that year they built a trampoline and swing set in the backyard overnight. I was very impressed with Santa and his efforts to reach you in the backyard. How on earth did they fit in the sled? The funny thing was that at that time I was the only child in the house.
Creating A Magical Christmas For Your Family
My brother still lived at home, but he was in his teens or early 20s before he moved out. My sister and her husband used to come for the day and Christmas was the most amazing party and a blast spending the day swimming in the pool.
Try not to laugh too hard, but I would have been at least 11 years old when I found out the truth about Santa...yeah, pretty embarrassing, but thanks my people for a job well done. It was a conversation with a school friend when the sad news came out.

My husband's family is Polish, which means Santa goes to the grandparents' house on Christmas Eve during the traditional Vigilia. Then for our Australian tradition, Santa comes and leaves presents under the tree while you sleep. We save our presents for Christmas morning and give them to their grandparents on Christmas Eve… via Santa.
We often give our girls practical gifts instead of toys, because other family members go looking for fun stuff! And the greatest gift is always from us or from Santa Claus, because I know that other parents may not be able to give much and the children should not wonder why Santa Claus was more generous to them than anyone else.

It happens like this. One of my best friends is struggling with this right now, a kid in her son's class is telling everyone who Santa really is. He is only 6 years old. Sometimes these things cannot be ignored, so we do our best to build excitement and trust at home with our children.
