Three gift cards purchased by Carolyn Horne of Hardee's at the Walmart Supercenter in Ponzac in December. Horne loaded $100 into each card and gave them away as Christmas presents, but her money disappeared when her son and daughters tried to use them. This documentation of gift card purchases was prepared by a Walmart manager on behalf of Carolyn Horne of Hardee's.
Using Your Visa Gift Card In Stores And Online
It was only after he realized that the prizewinners tried to use three $100 cards that they were useless. Carolyn Horn was holiday shopping in December when she stopped at a Walmart in America. 460 in Bonzag. There, using a Visa credit card issued by Wells Fargo Bank, Hardy's grandmother purchased three Walmart-branded Visa gift cards and loaded each with $100.
Due to each card's service charges, the total transaction was $316.32. Later, for Christmas, Horne gave one card to his son, another to his daughter, and a third to his stepdaughter. The cards, which had a Walmart logo on the front, went unused until Feb. 4, when Horn's son tried to use his gift card to pay for a meal at a local restaurant.
Visa declined the transaction because the card balance was 5 cents instead of $100. After learning the card was no good, Horne called her daughter and stepmother to warn them that something could happen to their unused gift cards. Those concerns turned out to be valid.

When each woman checked the scale, they found it to be zero. Further investigation by Horne and Visa revealed that Horne's son's card had a Jan. The $99.95 transaction dated 23rd occurred at a Harris Teeter store in Charlotte, North Carolina. On the same date, two other cards lost $100 balances at a Food Lion in North Carolina.
Making Returns With A Gift Card
Now Horn is trying to get his money back, but he won't. Horne called Visa gift cards, which instructed her to get a refund from Walmart. The branch manager at the Horns Wells Fargo bank that issued her Visa credit card gave her the same advice.
Horne, 72, said Bonzak made "seven or eight" visits to the Walmart in an effort to fix it. A manager there gave him three Walmart corporate phone numbers. Horne said Walmart employees at one of the numbers took her to another number and no one answered.
No one answered other Walmart company numbers left by Bonzak's manager. Horne identified the manager who gave the phone numbers as Kevin Dixton. (She also reported the scam to the police.) So far, no one has been able to reconnect Horne with her missing $316.32.
So last week, she reached out to yours truly. He sent me photos of fraudulent cards, photos of his Walmart receipts, and more. But so far I haven't helped Horn much either. Kevin Dixton was not working at Bonsac on Thursday or Monday, and I tried to reach him by phone several times a day.
