Food stalls and Padang restaurants are open in the unspoiled part of town and fruit carts are everywhere.

On the western edge of the city, along Jail Tengku Iskandar, there are some cozy cafes with soothing rice paddy views around Uli Kareng. There are three fast food chain restaurants downtown, A&W, KFC and Pizza Hut. As with all travel, common sense and a good attitude are all you need to get by in this small town.
