Friends, family and community members gathered at the Flagler Beach Pier for a vigil nearly a week after the 23-year-old was killed in a car crash near Dean Road and State Highway 408 in Orange County.

A 23-year-old man died after a collision with a teenager driving a stolen SUV on his way home from get off work early Sunday morning, police said. Karen Dion is a friend of the Romero family from Flagler County. Romero's life ended with a simple drive home from get off work.
Six teenagers in a stolen SUV ran a red light and crashed into his car on Dean Road at 4:30 a.m. Sunday, police said. Troopers said the investigation was ongoing and any decision on the charges would be made once it was completed. "He will be greatly missed by everyone in the community; touched so many," Dion said.

Back in Flagler Beach, flowers in front of Romero's parents' restaurant called Tuscany by the Sea by Romero. Romero works in Orange County but is often with family. "Just a really nice young man, always warm whenever I see him at a restaurant," Dion said.
The GoFundMe was created to help Romero employees. The restaurant is closed because they are mourning. “They worry about not being able to pay their rent and their bills and not being able to support their families,” Dion said. Twenty other restaurants in the Flagler Beach area plan to help by donating a percentage of daily sales on select dates.
Dion said the Romero family was just their own family and other people's family. “They were the first to help anyone in the community, so it didn’t surprise me at all to have a community party for them,” Dion said. “They work together, they live together, they’re always together on Sundays off. He’s definitely a family guy, he’s with his family most of the time,” Dion said.
There will be a candlelight vigil on Thursday at 6:00 pm. On the beach next to the Flagler Pier. Due to parking issues, attendees are kindly requested to park at the proposed hotel. The family also asked residents to watch out for nesting turtles.
