Engineer Gift Ideas
Show them that you understand their tech passion and support them as they learn about your perfect gift. This list is a compilation of my favorites from around the internet. Some of them are our own Genius Lab Gear inventions and some of us are just jealous that we didn't think of it first!
Some of the external links on this site are from affiliates, which means that any purchase made after clicking on the link will result in a free referral fee money back to Genius Lab Gear. We appreciate your support, which allows us to continue creating and testing the best tools for engineers on the planet!
The perfect 5-star rating on Amazon that we want to brag about! It is the most unique and practical pocket tool for every student or technical professional. It's about the size of a regular credit card and packed with the functions and information an engineer needs every day at school and work.
1. The Pocket Engineer Wallet Ruler And Unit Conversion Reference
Laser cut and laser etched stainless steel features a thick black enamel finish to resist scratches and withstand years of abuse. One of the best cheap gadget gifts any engineer will learn. You can order directly through our website or on Amazon through the links below.

You can also add a custom logo to it for events, networking or giveaways! Custom orders start at 100 pieces - simply email us for more information. Mechanical pencils are the first daily staple for most engineers. It allows you to draw accurate outlines for homework or professional work with the option to make subtle adjustments using the eraser tool.
In the new digital age, mechanical pencils are still in demand but engineers often find themselves using touch screens. That's why my new favorite is the ROtr 800 Retractable Mechanical Pencil, (0.5mm). This goes from pencil to pen in no time and also ensures that the tip doesn't poke your pocket all day like most other models.
This truly is the ultimate mechanical pencil and would make a special gift. Staedtler is another brand that engineers love. This model is cheaper and will last a long time, but it cannot be converted into a pen. You can't go wrong with either. Stickers help people silently express themselves anywhere.
2. Rotring Or Staedtler Mechanical Pencil
They have become so popular among the younger generation because each represents a small part of who or wants to be and is instantly relatable to even the most introverted engineer. We've got a growing selection of STEM-themed posters any engineer enthusiast will appreciate, including our latest "Engineering for All" poster.
Some posters also include a small donation to a volunteer or nonprofit group doing valuable progressive work in the scientific community. These decals are a waterproof vinyl that removes without leaving any residue and are great for laptops, thermos bottles, notebooks, car bumpers, or any other hard surface you can imagine.

We've recently launched a full suite of science and engineering magnets, and of course, we've created a group just for engineers! Each special package comes with 144 cells carefully engineered by PhDs in the field to ensure technical accuracy and implied tampering. This makes a fun engineering-themed gift for students in dorms, labs, or offices that allows them to show their technical side, but not for work.
The Mohandessin Square brochure is worth its weight in gold. Unfortunately, most inks will not withstand sudden rain or solvent spills. Notes worth a whole year can easily be washed. Many professional engineers are now turning to pens that are chemically stable, waterproof, and fade resistant to record their notes with confidence.
3. Stem-Themed Stickers For Laptops, Thermoses Or Notebooks
Fortunately, these Pigma Micron pens made in Japan by Sakura contain the best ink on the market in a wide range of font sizes and colors to allow for flexible note-taking and annotation in the field engineer's handbook. These pens are promoted by professionals the world over for the "archival" inks trusted by curators, artists, accountants, and planners.
Dries quickly and does not bleed through paper thin. Any engineer who does hands-on work will want this toolkit to take their record keeping to a professional level. You can find a pack of 12 in different colors on Amazon for about $23. Another tool that engineers use is the tape measure.
Bandwidth metrics are often imprecise and difficult to use. Fortunately, these problems can be solved with a newer technology called laser rangefinder. It really is a perfect gift for an engineer! We like that it's accurate to 65 feet, fits in a pocket, and provides live measurements that adjust as you get closer to or away from the target.

This is my favorite clever invention. This is inevitable. Rocketbook has finally solved the problem of integrating handwritten notes into your favorite digital services. Simply use the app to take a picture of your note pages, and a QR code and icons highlighted on each page will trigger the app to send the digital page to any of the 9 pre-installed digital destinations of your choice.
3. Stem-Themed Stickers For Laptops, Thermoses Or Notebooks
This includes OneNote, Evernote, Google Drive, Dropbox, and even select emails. Want a shortcut to email feedback directly to your co-workers or boss? This is what you see. The Matrix Rocketbook is my personal favorite because it's built for more artwork. It contains 30 pages of graph paper and a regular page lined for notes, plus a built-in ruler on the inside cover.
Did I mention they are reusable? Use their "Pilot Frixion" pen and wipe the page with a damp cloth after you've uploaded your notes to reuse them (and win one for the environment!). If it's sold out on their website (it's very popular) - you can also buy it on Amazon.
Engineers often get stuck in the vicious cycle of always reading technical documents, textbooks, and articles. The key is to break this cycle from time to time and find a book to read for fun. Here are some of our favorite science-related books that will be an interesting read for any scientist or engineer.
This is our all-time favorite book that any scientist or engineer would love to read. For such a technical book, it has an amazing but not too dramatic plot (except for a little bit at the end). No other fiction book has achieved such popularity while making calculations, estimations, and exact science principles just to keep someone alive.
