Over the last few years, my corner of the world has been transformed by strange, occult forces: More and more of my friends are playing Dungeons & Dragons.
I first knew of D&D as a math-based tabletop role-playing game released in 1974 with a historically white, male, nerdy fanbase. I'm not totally offended, but I didn't think I would find it particularly addictive or intuitive. But after hearing enough D&D stories about dead gods and magical pets, my curiosity got the better of me.
I became addicted after one session. It took me longer to master all the rules - I just learned how to properly use my rogue's class features - but in the midst of the ongoing COVID winter, creating a character is a good excuse to wear a wig.
