What's more, gift baskets are perfect for almost every occasion—from holidays to housewarmings. Ready to get started? We'll show you how to master this all-in-one gift once and for all. We spoke to Taste of Home's Executive Director of Visual Production, Stephanie Marchese, to find out how to create a truly great gift basket.

Here are his top tips. Every good gift basket needs a purpose. It can revolve around a special holiday or special occasion, but a "just because" theme works too. "If I want to do something for a friend, and it's not his birthday, and it's not Christmas, I'll think, what does he like to do?"

Stephanie said. "See what people are interested in." Specific hobbies and interests are a great place to start, but so are general interests like travel, cooking or gardening. Feel free to be creative! Once you have a theme, you need to set a budget. (Otherwise, it's easy to go overboard!) And remember that you don't have to spend a fortune to make a hearty gift basket—especially if you shop at a budget-friendly store like Marshall's or Target.

Step 1: Start With A Theme

are Homemade crafts and food gifts also count. It's time to go to the store! Get 5-15 items (depending on the size of your basket) that fit your theme. "Make a good package... think of all the little things that can fill the void," says Stephanie.

And don't forget the most important thing: the basket! "Make the basket something you can actually use," advises Stephanie. "Finding a useful basket is a better way to spend your money." Some of our favorite containers include tote bags, storage baskets and crates. Once you've selected all of your items, it's time to arrange them in an attractive way.

Start with the heaviest items at or near the bottom of the basket, then layer up. You can use crinkled paper to add volume: "It takes up space and makes it beautiful," says Stephanie. Or, choose a functional filler. "Try socks, a bath towel, a beach towel, a dish towel—something you can use for packing but you can also use," she suggests.

If desired, add a card or ribbon for the final touch — then you're ready to gift. If you want a little more inspiration, these expertly designed baskets are easy to replicate. Whether you're celebrating a special occasion or a random Tuesday, this "little something" basket is sure to put a smile on your recipient's face.

Step 1: Start With A Theme

It's full of essentials that everyone can enjoy, like fresh flowers and cookbooks. Staying at a friend or family member's house? This lunch basket is a wonderful "thank you for having me" gift. Load it up with lots of goodies—like a mini waffle maker, specialty coffee, and kitchen towels.

I love Christmas and everything that comes with it, but sometimes deciding what to give to the people in my life can feel a little overwhelming. If you're struggling to find a meaningful yet budget-friendly gift for anyone on your Christmas list, fear not! I'm here to give you the best gift ideas and inspiration for every possible situation: all my best DIY gift basket ideas!

Step 2: Set A Budget

Gift baskets are my favorite type of gift giving. By choosing a collection of items that your recipient will love, you can show them how much you know and care about them. DIY gift baskets can also be very budget-friendly. You can set whatever budget you want for the basket, and then shop for items anywhere from boutique stores to dollar stores.

It's entirely up to you! Either way, the way you make and style the basket will make it look luxurious. They are perfect for Christmas because you can easily customize the basket to be festive and thoughtful without spending too much. Your gift basket can be completely unique to the person you are giving it to.

Add as many or as few items to the basket as you want, and create a fun theme that your friends or family members will love! For my baskets, I put everything inside from food to home decor - it all depends on the recipient's interests.

This post will have more than enough DIY gift basket ideas to get you started on your Christmas hunt! One way to elevate a DIY gift basket is to use creative containers. Instead of a classic basket, use another container that matches the aesthetic of the item you're using.

Step 2: Set A Budget

For example, you can use a pretty mixing bowl for a pancake-themed gift basket. Or a beautiful glass jar with thoughtful wine recipes for a gift basket. Beach buckets would be lovely beach themed gifts for kids. You can keep a laundry basket filled with beautiful laundry and clothes as a homemade gift for someone who has just moved into their new place.

Think outside the box - or basket! - Creating something truly special. If you choose to use items from the dollar store in your gift basket, you can still make your gifts fancy and expensive by keeping a few tips and tricks in mind. Choose items that have a similar theme and color scheme.

Next, choose a basket that matches the flavor of the item and fill it with recycled shredded paper to match. Next, arrange the objects on the paper in a fun way - the bigger ones can go in the back and the smaller ones in the front.

Now you can add free printable gift tags and/or labels (we'll get them!) to turn your basket into a beautiful custom creation. Finally, you can wrap everything in cellophane and tie it with a pretty bow. And just like that, your dollar store cart will look like it was purchased at a luxury boutique!
