Definition Exhortation Spiritual Gift - Have you asked for a gift of encouragement? How can you tell if you have? What is the proof that it is a gift? I love these three things that I call "the three E-Migos". These three things every believer must do for others. Correct others, encourage others and encourage others.

Definition Exhortation Spiritual Gift
Our focus here is on the gift of preaching, but what does the word preaching mean? The word exhortation and the act of exhortation mean to encourage, exhort, exhort, exhort, and exhort. Romans 12:8 refers to the gift of exhortation, which says "he who speaks in his own way."
The word exhortation is a verb... it is the act or action of encouraging, encouraging, advising, or pleasing someone or others in need. It is an action oriented word. It is a gift of the Spirit and everyone has a gift, and perhaps more than one, we know that there are those who have the gift of preaching in the church and their function in building up the church is to encourage individual members.
To do so in a church or meeting. The Greek word used for preaching is "paraklesis" and from its Greek definition, we can see that it is very necessary in the church. Paraklesis means calling to one's side, "summoning" or "summoning" and "warning". Another name for the Holy Spirit is "paraklesis" in Greek which is very close to "paraklet" or "parakletos" and means "called together" or "called with another" because this is what the Holy Spirit does for us.
The Three E-Migos
He comes with us and helps us bring the Scriptures to mind and gives us the ability to understand the Scriptures, so what counsel to other believers, the Holy Spirit to us (though the Holy Spirit is infinitely more beneficial). God gives the gift of the Spirit for the benefit of the church, not for the benefit of individuals.

Paul uses the word encouragement in a way that fits the definition of the word. He writes to Timothy, "Until I come, devote yourselves to the public reading of the Scriptures, to teaching, to teaching" (1 Timothy 4:13). Paul told the church in Rome, "I am convinced that you are my brothers, full of goodness, full of knowledge, able to instruct one another" (Romans 15:14).
Paul said in Acts 20:31, "Therefore be careful, remember that for three years I did not stop weeping night or day." Paul also wrote: “Brothers, we beseech you to respect those who work among you and lead you in the Lord, and who advise you, and honor them with love because of their work.
Be at peace among yourselves. And we beseech you, brethren, admonish the idle, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, be patient with them all” (1 Thess 5:12-14). If you have the gift of exhortation, you will bring your brothers and sisters in Christ and counsel them, you will respect them more, you will encourage them regularly, you will counsel them when they need it, you will be courageous.
The Three E-Migos
Always see them through hardships, and you will cheer them on toward the prize of the high calling in Christ. If you do many or all of these things for the body of Christ, you probably have the gift of counsel. Today there are more Christians attacking each other over not needing faith than I remember seeing in my lifetime.
Instead of strengthening each other, they are tearing each other down. I have heard that for many Christians the only kind of practice they can get into is jumping to conclusions, tearing others down, and driving others away. This is why we need this gift in the body of Christ.

Remember that gifts are intended to help strengthen the congregation, not the individual. God gives the gift of the Spirit for the benefit of the church, not for the benefit of individuals. Today, perhaps I have educated you a little about the gift of preaching, and even if you do not have this gift of the Spirit, you can encourage others inside and outside the church.
We are to lift up, encourage, edify, honor and encourage one another. We need each other in the church. I've read that there are about a hundred "one-to-ones" in the Bible. This shows the critical importance of each part of the body and that each is critical to the efficient and effective functioning of the body of Christ.
Greek Meaning Of Exhortation
Check your own actions. Do you have the gift of preaching? If not, preach to others anyway. Try to be the glue that holds the church together, not the scissors with which everyone cuts the ribbon. Today, more than ever, we need this gift in the church.

What Exhortation Looks Like
Constantly seeking his presence! "God loves each one of us as one" - Augustine preaches that this is not a term we commonly use. Yet for some reason, many Bible translators (eg ESV) continue to use it to describe spiritual gifts in Romans 12. Some Bible versions such as the NIV instead use "encouragement".
, which sounds more natural to our modern ears. But does it mean the same thing? The call certainly includes encouragement — but it doesn't stop there. Merriam-Webster defines a sermon as "language intended to encourage and exhort. Encouragement is based on kindness and hope. It strengthens the confidence of others.
It comforts them when they feel down. The sermon is filled with the same compassion and hope, but it takes a second step—it moves its listeners to action. Rather than offering vague words, encouragement speaks specifically to someone's situation, challenging them to do what is right.
The sermon is based on truth. It is not passive about sin. But it always confirms God's ongoing work in the other person, and it always holds hope for their future. It motivates that person to grow and become all that God created them to be.
