I actually had a teacher tell me that they never got an end of year gift (gasp)! However, many students/families give something to show their appreciation and love for their teacher after spending a year together! I'm in about 47 "dance mom" Facebook groups. This is a question I've been asked a lot lately!
I asked seven instructors at my studios to give me their brutally honest version of the best gift to receive from a student/family. Here in Eastern Washington we have no shortage of companies to choose from. Starbucks, Dutch Bros, Roasters etc. If you know your trainers' favorite coffee stand, offer them a $5 or $10 gift card.
If you don't know your favorite, just pick one and I'm sure it will be appreciated no matter what! And makes a lot of sense! Teachers spend many hours outside the classroom preparing music, curriculum and choreography. This includes time spent in classrooms with your children and many other people.

Dance Recital Gift Season Is Upon Us!
I only have 2 kids and they are exhausting me. Many of our teachers have children of their own. They are also tired. Give them coffee. Almost every teacher I asked responded to (including coffee…) with a simple, personal note of thanks and a hug.
These instructors know your children. They laugh with them and face challenges and care for them. A little "hey, we love you too and appreciate everything this year" means a ton. You can add a picture of your player and teacher to remember them for a lifetime.
You can add a $5 coffee gift card. Flowers Just give the card alone with the signature of your ill-fated 3-year-old ballerina. It will be appreciated no matter what. Do you think you buy a lot of dance and dance clothes? So are your trainers!
While every teacher would love to give you a hug and thank you and not expect much, it's a safe bet if you're struggling with the idea of buying! Discount Dance, Dance Clothing Solutions etc. "Hey here's $10 towards a pair of new ballet shoes" will put a smile on their face.

But What To Get Them?!
Performance goes a long way. A gift card to a dancewear or dancewear supply company helps in situations where you're not sure what they need or want. Dance teachers are usually full of life and personality, at least in all of us. Silly socks, glittery cups, a bunch of cake pops (but, all of these are copied directly from our instructors 😉) something small and hand-drawn like a memorable photo - your teacher will love that!
You took the time to think of them and do something special for them. It doesn't have to be expensive or messy. It doesn't have to be something Pinterest or display worthy. I know how it is… but I am quoting directly from the teacher here and at the end of the day the most important thing to remember is….
Just a small gesture will show your teacher that they are loved and appreciated and that you are thinking of them. I didn't think anything of it, but any of these would absolutely make my day!! My daughter has her first dance this weekend. He is also 4 at the end of the month. His teacher brings me Starbucks. I was looking for a little gift ideas, so thanks for this timely post, ha!
