These final days are being planned before your eyes, but most orders are in a remote, poorly marked sanctuary called The Fields of the Wood. Why hide the ten commandments of the world under a picture basket? Because even though they're 300 feet wide, they're kind of thoughtful.
AJ. Tomlinson was the visionary who built them. He was working for the American Bible Society when he encountered a group of humble Pentecostals in the mountains of southwestern North Carolina. On the morning of June 13, 1903, A.J. to climb the hill and meet God;
Roy Said To Wife, Louise,
when he went down he had a plan for Pentecost. Three years later, he led their sect, which grew into a transnational Protestant religion called The Church of God of Prophecy. Work on The Fields of the Wood began on November 15, 1940. Its first monument was not the Ten Commandments, but a ball-headed obelisk where A.J.
he showed his testimony to the Pentecostals. The second monument, the largest altar in the world, is 80 feet tall and marks the spot where A.J. encounter with God. AJ. He said this is only right because the Bible says that sacred places of worship should be sealed in monuments.
Then A.J. death He lived long enough to see his mega orders displayed on the hill. The Church of God's Prophecy, under his own instructions, removed all monuments in The Fields of the Wood in 1945. On the other side of the narrow valley, lined with large parking lots for the public of the church, is the Prayer Mountain, which rises high with its neighbor.
The Story Touched And Grabbed Her Heart.
Its steps are covered with monuments to 29 prominent teachings of the Church of God's Prophecy, each supported by a different state. Studies include condemnations of alcohol (Virginia), tobacco (Washington), Freemasonry (North Dakota), swearing (Arkansas), and "criminal divorce and remarriage" (Indiana). Louisiana covered it up with its "Eternal Punishment for the Wicked" monument.
Despite its size, the world's largest Ten Commandments are one of the most famous landmarks in The Fields of the Wood. The reception hall displays a map showing everything on the 210-hectare property, from a replica of Calvary to the Star of Bethlehem atop a metal tower.
An empty tomb -- made of stone brought down from the mountains -- and a baptismal font big enough to hold a mob of criminals. Christian rock, blasting from speakers outside the gift shop, fills the small valley. The highest point of the park is the "All Nations Cross", the perfect exhibit for angel viewing.
The cross is 150 feet long and is topped by stakes flying the flags of the nations where the Church of God's Prophecy was founded. The Cross Chamber has only 86 flags, although the church operates in 140 districts (The gift shop guide will apologize if your country's flag is not flying on the day of your visit).
