In normal times, corporate gifts are a routine cost of doing business. It is used to recognize employees and strengthen relationships with customers or partners. But it has taken on a new urgency as a result of the pandemic. With the company's employees scattered, a well-chosen gift has become a way to keep employees connected and reward them for doing

above and beyond in very difficult circumstances. When corporate events went digital, a gift box for valued attendees brought a touch of reality to an otherwise virtual event. Similarly, with customer relationships maintained from a distance, a well-chosen gift bridges the gap. A new study, conducted among 300 corporate gift buyers across companies with up to $30 billion in revenue, details the changes the pandemic has brought to the corporate gift business and predicts trends that
will drive this business forward. The study was conducted by Coresight Research and sponsored by GiftNow, a Synchrony solution that makes digital corporate gifts easy for gift buyers and provides access to retailers and brands, such as Target TGT, FTD, Crocs CROX, and Dover Saddlery, in a non-operating venture.
gift market "The first thing we decided to do was determine the actual size of the corporate gift market," says Kevin Payne, vice president of corporate marketing at GiftNow. "We felt it was bigger than previous estimates, but how much bigger we didn't know." .
Another Gift Option:
We also believed that it grew very quickly during the past year, and the study confirmed it. Corporate gifts are growing faster than the rest of the gift market.” The new study estimates that the corporate gift market will reach $242 billion this year and will continue to grow at an accelerated CAGR of 8.1% through 2024. In comparison, personal gifts are expected to grow by just a CAGR of 6% during that time.
a. About 60% of total corporate gifts will be spent on gifts for customers and partners outside the organization and 40% on internal employee recognition and rewards. Corporate gift budgets have also received a boost, with more than half of respondents reporting that their budgets have increased due to Covid.

The amount spent on a gift is also surprisingly high. Most spend between $25 and $125 on a corporate gift, with the highest percentage reporting the sweet spot is between $75 and $100. It was money well spent for the gift companies. More than 80% said that the gift improved relations with employees and/or customers, and 48% said the gift brought a significant benefit.
Chief among the benefits were making the recipient feel valued (45% reported significant benefits), improved customer loyalty (43% significant benefits), and improved employee retention (41% significant benefits). With these accumulated benefits, companies plan to maintain their current accelerated pace of corporate giving or even increase it.

We found among our respondents that seven out of ten expect the current frequency of corporate gifts to remain at current levels or even increase," explained Steven Winnick, senior analyst at Coresight. "Covid looks like it will have more of a long-term impact on corporate giving, less driven by the holidays and more by certain events happening in the organization," he continued.
The pandemic has changed the corporate gift game from just a routine to a business priority. He brought home the most significant effect of a corporate gift: making the recipient feel valued and appreciated by the company. The number one occasion for gifts was to show gratitude and appreciation to an employee (64%) and about half gave gifts to customers and partners as a sign of appreciation as well.
These recognition gifts bring an element of surprise that increases their value by building an emotional connection. "While there are direct monetary benefits to corporate gifts, such as lead generation and improved sales, these are overshadowed by emotional and sentimental benefits," explains GiftNow's Payne. In this way, corporate giving is not so different from personal giving.

To build a deeper emotional bond between the giver and the recipient, the best gifts are those that are carefully chosen and show a true understanding of the recipient. This is where corporate gift buyers can run into trouble. For example, sending a bottle of wine or Scotch whiskey to a non-drinker or worse is a recovering alcoholic would not be appreciated.
Benefits Gained Through Corporate Gifting
Similarly, a grocery basket full of baked goods would fall flat for a gluten intolerant person. Personalization of gift selection is important for corporate and personal gifts. In terms of what corporate gift buyers look for in a gift, it is no different from personal gifts.
They want good quality products (88%), on-time delivery (82%) and a wide variety of gifts to choose from (81%). But in the corporate gift of the host there is an added level of complexity caused by the large number of gift recipients involved. This is especially problematic when choosing a one-to-many gift, such as for the holidays, rather than a one-to-one gift for occasions of recognition and appreciation.
Simplifying and personalizing the corporate gifting process for one-to-many and one-to-one gifts is where a digital service like GiftNow fits in. Corporate gift buyers do not need to manage recipient addresses. Using the platform, buyers provide their target email address where they are sent an instant notification that a gift is on the way.
The recipient of the gift can then specify where and when to deliver it. These gift announcements can be further enhanced with a video or personal message. More personalization comes with the recipient being able to make an exchange before sending the gift. This saves headaches for the retailer, who can avoid operational complications in the return process, but especially for the recipient of the gift, who does not have to do extra work to package a return or experience delays during the return process.
