Cliffs Of Moher Gift Shop - The Cliffs of Moher on the edge of County Clare offer some of the most spectacular scenery in all of Ireland. At their highest point, they rise to 702 feet in height, making them the second highest sea cliffs in the country behind Slough League in County Donegal. Spectacular views stretch for miles as the cliffs weave in and out along the rugged coastline. Visiting this bucket list attraction is one of the best things to do in Ireland, but there are many ways to get the experience right by knowing exactly what to do and where to go nearby. Visit the Visitor Center: A state-of-the-art visitor center is built into the side of a small addition to the landscape to minimize its impact on the landscape itself. The center is filled with interesting exhibits about the geology and history of the area, as well as a cafe and gift shop. Climb O'Brien's Tower: The most famous landmark - near the entrance to the visitor center - is O'Brien's Tower. The lookout point was built in the 19th century by a local man named Cornelius O'Brien who wanted to appeal to "strangers looking at the magnificent scenery of this neighborhood". Take in the breathtaking views: From the Tower along the cliffs and surrounding areas, visitors can look west to the Aran Islands or all the way north to the Twelve Banns, one of Ireland's highest mountain ranges. You will find several walkways and viewing platforms where you can fully appreciate the beauty of this part of the Emerald Isle. Amazing in wildlife: The Cliffs of Moher are also a special protected area for breeding seabirds. Some of the wildlife you may see include kittiwakes, peregrine falcons, and puffins clinging to windswept cliff faces, as well as whales and dolphins swimming at their base. Explore nearby attractions on foot: Most of the crowds stay close to the visitor center. To really connect with the rocks, take a walk. Head south to Hag's Head, a rock formation that looks like a woman in the sea. The landmark is about an hour's walk away. For a longer stroll, head north to the village of Dolan. Traditional West Ireland villages are approximately three hours' walk away. The cost of visiting the Cliffs of Moher includes all-day parking and access to the visitor centre. The price depends on the type of ticket and if you are visiting during peak hours. Online booking of tickets can save up to 50% of the cost. *Four children aged 0-16 can stay for free with a paying adult. These prices technically only apply to visitors who drive to the cliffs and park in the specific area and/or use the Visitor Center. However, there is no other nearby parking. The only way to access the cliffs for free is by foot from Dolan or Lahinch. Access to O'Brien's Tower is not included in the price of a normal ticket to visit the cliffs. Adult admission to the tower is €4. Children under 16 are admitted free with a paying adult. Tour times vary depending on the season, although ticket prices remain the same. The Cliffs and Visitor Center are open on the following schedule (with admission up to 20 minutes prior to last admission closing time): The Cliffs of Moher are a stunning natural wonder, but they are not the only spectacular sight in the area. Drive just over 10 miles to explore Burn, one of six nature parks in the country and looking more like a picture of the moon than a corner of Ireland. While you're there, stop at the Islewey Caves, Ireland's oldest caves. Visitors can take a 30-minute guided walk through the caves to see a frozen waterfall and unique fossils. The cave's location on Burn Mountain also offers spectacular views of Galle Bay. A visit to the Aillwee Cave complex can be combined with a ticket to the Birds of Prey Centre, which has daily flying shows and a strong conservation program for hawks, owls, falcons and eagles. If a trip to the Wild Atlantic Way isn't already on your itinerary, it should be. The Cliffs of Moher may be one of the more popular stops, but there are plenty of other places to see along the way. The route starts south of Kinsale in County Cork, but it's best to head north so you're always on the seaward side of the road. From the Cliffs of Moher, we recommend heading to Achill Island, one of Ireland's most beautiful islands. And, if you want to explore one of Ireland's livelier cities, the Cliffs of Moher are only a 40-minute drive from Galway. The buzzing University Town pub is a great place to stop for an evening to hear live music, learn about the area's medieval history, or just have a good meal.
