Here are the ground rules... 1. Each player brings a wrapped gift to contribute to the same set. 2. Players draw numbers to determine the order in which they will play. Alternatively, someone can draw names from a hat, or the order can be set by the organizer before the event.
3. The players sit in a circle or in a row, where they can see the pile of gifts. 4. The first player selects a gift from the pool and opens it. 5. The next players can choose to choose an unwrapped gift from the pool or steal the previous player's gift.
Anyone who has their gift stolen in this way can do the same - choose a new gift or steal from someone else. To keep things moving, there are two limits to exchanging gifts: 6. After all players have taken a turn, the first player gets a chance to exchange the gift in their hand for another unwrapped gift.
Popular Variations
Anyone who has a stolen gift can steal it from another person (as long as that person has not been robbed). If someone refuses to steal the gift, the game ends. Note that the three-turn rule does not apply to this last "extra" turn. Players can continue to take turns until someone chooses to pat if someone else is not eligible to steal.
