Cedarbrook Lavender & Herb Farm owners Marcella and Gary Stachurski have expanded their wholesale business to include a quaint and cozy shop in downtown Sequim at 134 1/2 W. Washington St. The 10-by-25-foot gift shop, which opened April 18, resembles the store they had for many years in the old Bell Farm house at the south end of Sequim Avenue with weathered barn wood accents, vintage metalwork and china.
- and of course everything lavender. "Most of our business is wholesale, but I like to visit customers," says Marcela Stahurski. “I always thought it would be really cool to have a little shop here. I think downtown Sequim shops are places that tourists love to visit and we had fun putting them together.

We really wanted it to feel like a gift shop and a way to introduce Cedarbrook to our friends, neighbors and visitors.” Stahursky said the store is only a small part of the 3,000-square-meter building. "The advantage for manufacturing is that we have everything here now: food processing, commercial kitchen, bottling, warehousing and shipping, all in this building."
Although the store is filled with a wide selection of goods, Stahursky's eye for design makes the boutique chic, not kitsch. Vintage sewing machine boxes, turned upside down, display a variety of Cedarbrook's own spices, and an enamel sink showcases its own blend of lavender and rose potpourri.

Worn wooden boxes and baskets overflow with large and small bags of lavender buds and bunches hanging from the ceiling. And of course, the soothing breath of lavender awaits when customers open the door. Stahurski said she has four main lines of lavender products: bath and body, aromatherapy, cooking and home decor.
Bath and body products include face/body cream, lotions, shampoo, shower gel, bath tea, bubbles and salts, lip balm and goat's milk soap. Her aromatherapy line includes sachets, potpourri, essential oils and soy candles. Culinary products include Lemon/Lavender Peppers, Lavender Peppers, Herbs de Provence, Lavender Sugar, Baking Mixes, Chocolates and Lavender Drink Tea, and Lavender Tinted Honey, all harvested from their own farm.
Home decor includes reusable dryer sheets, three scents of natural cleaners, lavender stuffed teddy bears, catnip and catnip pillows, small lanterns and vintage decor. Because the Stahurskis are their only employees, the hours for the gift shop will be limited, except during Sequim Lavender Weekend.
“During Lavender Weekend we will be open from 9am. and 6 p.m. daily," Stahursky said. "This is where we will be instead of a street fair." From now on, the gift shop is open from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Saturday and from 5:30 to 8 p.m.

The Stahurskis painted the storefront a soft moss green with deep lavender accents, and their Cedarbrook sign will be up in June. They are also building a new website. A bit of serendipity helped a Sequim-based lavender company maintain its presence in downtown Sequim.

Gary and Marcella Stahurski of Cedarbrook Lavender & Herb Farm were looking for a downtown location for their gift shop when they sold the building that housed their shop in September. At the same time, according to the Stahursky family, Mark and Krista Ermasil of the Olympic Lavender Company farm and gift shop were preparing for new construction and expansion at their farm on Marine Drive near Dungeness Bay.
When Olympic Lavender vacated its space at 120 W. Washington St., Cedarbrook was able to move in right away. "It's a blessing for businesses and families," Marcela Stahurski said. The Stahurskis said they had about two weeks to consider what they would do after hearing the news that they would have to leave their former retail space at 134 1/2 W. Washington St.
We were beside ourselves," Gary Stahurski said. "It's the best place in town in my opinion." Marcella Stahurski said the previous mall took four months to prepare and open (from December 2014 to about April 2015), but this move began Nov. 1 and will require three weeks of renovations.
Cedarbrook Gift Shop is having a "soft opening" today, Wednesday, November 20th, with a grand opening planned for early 2020. “This is not just a lavender shop; most of the products we sell are made or bottled here on site,” said Gary Stahurski, from massage oils, a variety of soaps, sachets and food-related products like peppers and cookies — all with an element of lavender, of course.
The Stahurskis, Sequim residents since 2005, are the second owners of Cedarbrook Lavender and Herb Farm, founded in 1967.
