Who else does a happy dance when you already have all the ingredients for a recipe? That's kind of how I feel about activity supplies. It's like a little peace of mind/security blanket knowing I have everything on hand to pull an activity idea out of thin air.
Having a few key essentials makes things so easy. My supply list is a detailed list of everything I have on hand so I can whip up these perfect “recipes” for activities when I need them. Remember, I don't do activities with my kids so I can win parent of the year or be on the cover of Pinterest Monthly.
Activities are the tool I choose to use when there is nothing here, the kids need help, I need help, people need a reset, etc. I'm not sure about you, but I neither have a million dollars to spend on activity supplies, nor do I have an entire room to devote to supplies.
You Don’t Need All The Supplies – Just The Right Ones

I love watercolors. This is a fantastic set of watercolors and a little more imaginative than the "regular" watercolors for kids. My kids graduated to this larger set around age 5. Crayons are required. I love this slightly triangular thinker set for kids of all ages.
It is great for young children to learn how to hold a pencil. For big kids, there are vibrant colors that make a beautiful finished product. No activity kit is complete without essential markers. This is imperative. These are great. They are durable, well made and make painting fun and stylish.

I've had this set for years. Nothing beats this all-nylon brush set. We left them in the mud and they still cleaned up perfectly. My kids can't live without access to construction paper. It's such a big part of their arts and crafts and fun.
White construction paper. This is an absolute must. I should probably buy the supplies in white construction paper. This was one of the first activity aids I bought. I knew I could use this for play, art, messy play, and gift wrapping. This was intended to be used.

Leaflets are rock stars. From tape resist art to creating a toy parade: blue painter's tape is life. I use it so much that I actually buy it in bulk. Yes. You see that right. A peri bottle is one of the best accessories for activity.

They sell them in packs of three if you don't currently have them at home. Pom pom balls make everything beautiful. I love this bag of 300 pom pom balls – it gets a lot of mileage around here. Of course, pom pom balls are a choking hazard.
Art Supplies For Activities
Use good judgment and control. I couldn't do the activity without my trusty permanent marker - this one comes in a pack of four. The size of this marker is perfect for creating activities. Oh my god, I love pipettes so much. They are small, cute and perfect for little and big kids.
Science, sensory, art... pipettes are the best thing to have on hand. I bought this six pack for my kids seven years ago. We still have them. We still love them. Sticky contact paper is magical for kids. It's great for activities, crafts, and art projects.
It's random to own, but it's fantastic. Kids need access to scissors - I know it's scary. Use excellent control and learn skills. Help children learn to use scissors and be independent with them. Purple glue sticks are the best! They're like magic for kids (they make things stick!) and another must-have accessory for activities AND exercise for kids before school days.
Another must-have: wet glue. Again, I know this can be scary, but it's really imperative that kids have the opportunity to use and practice with wet glue long before they head off to school. Using it is also a great arm strength workout. Perfect for water play.
