Borutos Birthday Gift - After stealing a thunderous train, a group of thieves are attacked in an abandoned mine tunnel. After the mission, Boruto offers to eat with his teammates and Team 7 hears the others gossiping about them. This gets under Boruto's skin, who walks away alone. Boruto thought back to his last birthday.

Sakura, Sarada and Mitsuki appeared but Naruto did not. Boruto was embarrassed but tried to hide it. Naruto arrives home after Boruto fell asleep and is sad that even though he got Boruto a gift, he doesn't know what toys his son likes. Boruto goes to the Ninja Tool Scientific Research Center instead of home.

Boruto takes out his frustration on Katasuke while working on Kote. Katasuke gives Boruto a scientific ninja tool for his birthday. Boruto arrives home and sees Himawari marking the calendar. He said it was to give their father advance notice of his upcoming birthday. Himawari is sad at the thought of Naruto missing his birthday.
Boruto promises her that he won't let Naruto miss her. The next day, Team 7 is assigned to find the Thunder train robbers. Boruto is worried that if it is not a great mission, people will not recognize him and will continue to measure him to Naruto's standard.

In the tunnels, they found the corpses and the footprints of the thieves. They follow their footsteps further inland, past the carvings of the Ōtsutsuki family. They reach the end of the trail and realize it's a trap. They are attacked by a giant, multi-faced white Zetsu.
