They had seven months since Borders first filed for bankruptcy to redeem their cards, and then about two months since the liquidation was announced. The news about the closure was not accidental. And of course, in bankruptcy, creditors are usually only paid a fraction of what they owe, which begs the question of why anyone would want to withhold a portion of that amount when they're already whole.

Borders, Inc. has launched a new loyalty program that rewards repeat customers with special discounts on in-store purchases. Under the Borders Rewards program, members who spend $50 or more each month can earn Personal Shopping Day Rewards, where customers receive a 10% discount on in-store purchases on the day they
chosen. In addition, members receive weekly discounts and promotions in store and via email. Members can also earn special vacation savings rewards. Similar to the Bank Christmas Club, 5% of all eligible purchases made throughout the year are deposited into the savings account. Members can use their Holiday Rewards savings between November 15 and January 15. Borders Rewards cards are available at Borders, Borders Express and Walden Books stores.
Customers can register for free by providing their email address to cashiers. Members can also manage their accounts online by registering their cards at Bordersrewards.com. Customers who register their cards can choose one of three welcome gifts: a coupon for 30% off a regular-priced item, a free 12-ounce hot beverage from the cafe or a $5 reward
