Let me start by saying that this is a fully updated birthday quest. If you search for the old one on Pinterest (pictured immediately below), you can still get it. Just download the file via the "Download Printable File" box at the bottom of this post and there will be a link in the email you receive in the old one.

I did the search for the original birthday cart years ago. Since then, I have created over 25 different hunts for all kinds of occasions. If there's one missing from this cart hunt list, let me know and I'll add it to my to-do list!

That said, I've made a new birthday quest, and I think it's even better than the original! That's what this post is about now. I created this new birthday search after numerous people asked me to expand the old one to more than four birthday search tracks.

I also depersonalized it a bit so you can use it in the morning, afternoon or evening, not just as a surprise when someone wakes up! And another change: you can add surprises to this one along the way if you want, but you don't have to, the clues don't necessarily indicate certain things along the hunt like the old one did.

Birthday Scavenger Hunt Clues

Since this week is my son's seventh birthday (ahhhh, where has the time gone since my life changed forever seven years ago?) and he is obsessed with all scavenger hunt ideas, I thought it would be fun have a new birthday Treasure Hunt. We will do this and this virtual scavenger hunt with family and friends!

These birthday scavenger hunt clues included in the free printable are similar to ones I've made for past scavenger hunts. A few things to keep in mind that make this scavenger hunt good for anyone. The clues are generic enough that they should work in anyone's home (eg fridge, mailbox, front door).

I used to do more specific things in our house (eg fireplace) but found that not everyone could use them because their house didn't have a fireplace. I made a boy and girl color version, so if you have a boy lover like me, you can use the boy color.

Both are included (along with the old birthday scavenger hunt tracks) in the printable file. They are also generic enough to work for children or adults. I've done things like this with my husband before, and he loved it! And I know I've always been a fan of my family's annual Christmas scavenger hunt!

A New Birthday Scavenger Hunt

There are eight tracks in total, including the opening track and the end note. You can use all eight or skip it if you prefer to do less. You can use this birthday quest in a couple of different ways. You could set it up overnight and leave your loved one the first clue to find when they wake up (like filling their room with balloons).

You could give them the hint when they get home from school/work (that's what we did) and set it up while they're away. Or you can do it at a kids birthday party and have them all hunt together. This would be perfect to get them a little more active after playing those birthday party games!

First of all, you need to print and cut out the printable tracks. The PDF includes four pages: a set of tracks for boys and a set of tracks for girls. Mix and match if you want, but know that the two sets of tracks are identical apart from the colors.

As you print and cut out the cards, I recommend keeping them in the order (right to left and top to bottom) in which they are printed. And I even recommend taking it a step further and writing on the back of the cards where the clues on the cards should be placed (not where they lead but where the clues should be placed).
