File/staff department store chain Belk is hoping to woo customers beyond Thanksgiving and Black Friday with $2 million in gift cards. The Charlotte-based retailer said Wednesday it will give away $1 million in gift cards to customers, including the first 250 customers at each store when it opens late on Thanksgiving Day.

Each of its 294 stores will have at least one $1,000 winner, Belk said. On Black Friday, the retailer is giving away another million dollars in scratch cards. Each store distributes scratch-off numbers to at least the first 150 customers in the morning queue, Belk said.

The gifts are available at all Belk stores in the retailer's 16-state region. Store opening hours on Thanksgiving weekend will be the same this year as last year: 4:00 to 1:00 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day and 6:00 to 10:00 p.m. black friday Belk is asking customers for donations from November 23rd through December 16th.

Boutique spa Sweet 185 plans to move out by December 1. The new store, called Uncork, is a joint venture between Mark Rosenberg and Ken Schneider of Mount Pleasant. It offers 40 different wines, some of which are unique to the store, by dispenser and bottle for indoor consumption.
After the remodel, look for an opening by March, Rosenberg said. Another new fitness center is headed to the Charleston area. North Carolina-based O2 Fitness, which has several gyms locally, has leased space in Ashley Oaks Plaza at 1119 Waupoo Road West Ashley, according to commercial real estate firm Colliers International.
