This is sure to be a big hit with the sports fan in your life. I designed this file to look like a baseball cap. Can you believe it's made of cardstock? The best part about this hat is that it comes in a functional gift box!

You can hide a gift or some treats in this 3D gift box. Give this gift box as a birthday, Valentine's Day or Father's Day gift! It's a thoughtful gift that can be customized to match the recipient's favorite sports team. This post comes with a free SVG file download so you can make this project with your cutting machine.

If you use 12" x 24" pieces, you can make this box larger than the hat in the photo. This project works best in conjunction with the Cricut Maker and tip wheel scoring. The scoring wheel provides 10x more pressure than the scoring stylus, allowing you to use thicker materials with ease.

The scoring wheel leaves deeper score lines that make folding 3D projects easier. You can still use this project with the Explore engine paired with a score stylus but the score lines will not be as deep. You can make this hat without a stylus or wheel, but you have to fold the paper manually with the score line.

Before you cut this project, don't forget to turn the cut lines along the square into score lines. This is really important!! Need help uploading your SVG file? Click here to read my blog post that walks you through the process. Open Cricut Design Space and click + to create a new project.

If you are a Design Space PRO, you can skip step #2. Navigate to the file on your device and click "Open" to add it to Cricut Design Space. On the Prepare screen, you can change the project name and add tags. Click "Upload". After you upload the file, select it and click "Insert Image" to bring it to the canvas.

What Size Are The 3D Baseball Cap Gift Boxes?

Start by selecting your file. Then click "UNGROUP" in the Layers panel. Next, "score" the cut line along the tab of the hat. Then, "score" the cut lines on the rectangular pieces. Next, transfer the cut line (which looks like a seam) to the "PEN" cap.

This should be done along the hat piece as well as the brim. Here is a close up of the file. Make sure you set the pen line to the innermost line and the score line to the outermost line. Attach the "SCORE" and "PEN" lines to the respective cut lines to make sure they are in the correct position.

Start by removing the clear liner from the Cricut mat and set it aside. Place the cardboard paper on the mat and press firmly on the paper to stick it to the mat. This step is very important to ensure that you get the best results when cutting your cards.

PRO TIP - For best results, check the blade before cutting the card. If it is covered with small pieces of cardboard, press the plunger down to open the blade and blast gently to remove the debris. Don't forget to open the scoring stylus or the scoring wheel so that the machine can create your score line.

This will help give you a guide on where to fold. After the machine finishes cutting the design, remove the mat from the machine. Repeat this process until you have cut all the pieces for the baseball hat gift box. Turn the mat right side down and gently remove the paper from the mat.

Place all pieces of the baseball cap gift box. You need to cut a total of eight pieces. There are two pieces that make up the brim of a baseball cap. Attach the adhesive to the edge without the seam line. Place the piece with the seam line on top and press down firmly to seal the piece.

This creates a solid foundation for your gift box. Start by applying the adhesive to the tabs and aligning the two pieces. Glue the tab along the score line along the length of the supporting side. Apply adhesive to the tabs along all side supports.

Side supports are now placed around the circle. Make sure to place the tab below the circle. This creates a clean finish. Attach the round base to the edge. Press firmly on the inside of the circle to make sure the two halves are completely together.

Step #1: Upload The 3D Baseball Hat Gift Box Cut Files

Let's start by forming the hat pieces. This step is very important if you want the hat to have a round shape. The pointed part of the hat should be shaped on the inside to mimic the shape of a baseball cap. You can use a Cricut scraper from the side of the table to do this.

This technique is clearly explained in the video tutorial) The bottom of the hat piece must be rounded to fit the base of the circle. Taking the time to shape the pieces before assembling will ensure they fit together and give the hat a more realistic finished look.

Fold all the tabs along the hat panel to the wrong side of the hat. Warning, this is the hardest part of this project! You might even take a practice round before you get it right! Place the adhesive strip on the wrong side of the hat under the curve of the hat panel.

Wait a few minutes for the craft glue line to become tacky. Bend the hat panels towards each other and align the score line along the tab with the edge of the other panel. I think it's easier to do it in parts. I start by aligning the first 3-5 tabs under the lid.
