The Child Life Specialist Program at Bernard and Millie Duker Children's Hospital has continued to grow over the years as its importance and value has become increasingly apparent. While health care professionals focus on the child's body, child welfare specialists help adolescent patients and their families reduce the stress of being in the hospital by providing a variety of services, including support for the care team and stress reduction.
Since 2009, Spirit of Children, a foundation affiliated with Spirit Halloween stores across the country, has donated more than half a million dollars to Albany Medical Center's Child Life program, including $89,100 in 2020.
