based in Taiwan. Starting Wednesday, April 26, Starlux Airlines is Alaska's newest partner, bringing exciting new benefits to Mileage Plan frequent flyers. If you're not familiar, Starlux is a Taipei-based luxury airline that launched in January 2020 with several domestic routes in Asia. The pandemic has halted the company's growth ambitions, but Starbucks is now back in expansion mode with its first US flight to Los Angeles on Wednesday.
At the same time as the launch, Alaska and Starbucks announce a partnership that mainly includes loyalty benefits. First, through April 26th, you can credit any Starlux flight to your Alaska Mileage Program account. As shown in the table below, you earn miles based on the fare class purchased and the distance flown.
To calculate your earnings, you'll want to check your card and see what rate you've purchased. Alternatively, you could theoretically add your Starlux flight to the airline's COSMILE loyalty program, but infrequent American travelers are better off earning Alaska miles. In addition, later this summer you will be able to purchase a mileage plan for Starlux travel.

While Alaska has recently moved away from buying fixed fares, the carrier has "started" with some affordable one-way award fares, as seen below. Miles cannot be redeemed for Starlux First Class. It's unclear whether Alaska's website will display Starlux award availability or which travel bucket award tickets will be awarded.

However, introductory award fares are incredibly affordable, especially compared to the cash fares you'd pay for a Starlux business class cabin. I recommend buying 120,000 Alaska miles, which TPG estimates is worth $2,160, compared to paying about $5,500 for a business class ticket. Of course, the devil is in the details, and with Alaska's new dynamic pricing model, you'll want to crunch the numbers before you buy.
